Good sub for less than $500

I am looking for a 12" sub to go in my suv. I want it to be extremely clear and extremely precise, not just mind boggling loud. I can spend about 500 max for the sub itself, but keep in mind that I am going to have to power it. What's my best bet? Thanks!

I don't know much about car audio, so this is kind of a first time for me. I don't have any amps in mind as of now. I am going to get some nice (and probably expensive) comp's for my doors and my other speaker locations, so I guess I will amp those seperatley from the sub. What are some good companies that make good amps? I want to get the amps from the same company b/c I am going to have a nice little display. I guess I want to spend about 3-4 on each amp, but the price range can be increased if it is really worth it.

How much space are you willing to give up for the box, and how much power are you looking to run (if you know)? The power power you need to run to the subs, the more strain it will put on your electrical system. So you need to decide if you want to put yourself in a position where major electrical upgrades may be needed.

I definately don't need tons of power. I just need it to sound really really clear. I really have no idea on how much power I want to run.

I also have 2 Alpine MRD-M501 for sale. They do 275 RMS@4ohms and 550watts RMS @ 2 ohms. Thats what I have my 2 12in Type R's hooked up too. My subs are dual 2 ohm and they are hooked up at a 4 ohm load to my MRD-M501 doing 275 watts RMS and it pounds like hell.

Then, in a situation like yours, I'd probably stay under about 700w or so. Image Dynamics IDMax is a great option, as are the Soundsplinter Rl-p, a pair of OZ Audio Matrix Elite, pair of Image Dynamics IDv3 series, a JL Audio w6v2, Ascendant Audio Atlas and Avalanche subs, Adire Audio Brahma or a pair of Koda's.

All of them are very accurate subs that are in your price range and will work well off of relatively minimal power (700w or less).
