i have a stereo in my room that is only good for 100 watts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif and i was looking for a good 10 or 12 inch sub that will hit hard at low wattage. i will be putting it in a ported or sealed box depending on what i can find cheap. thanks

chevyaudio, if the sub can pull much farther than 100 watts and my reciever can only push 100 watts, the sub will try to draw too much power from the reciever and cause it to go over the amp rating on the fuse making the insides burst. thats why you dont run a W7 off of a visonik 100.1 amp.

one time i bought one of those dual pieces of crap from pep-boys for 30 bucks and it was the best thing i heard on that reciever. the RMS was like 125 or something. i put my L7 on it and it barely even vibrates it hah. i hat an audiobahn 800W sub but it didnt do much on that either. i had a crappy visonik and it blew that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif

You're funny.

Subs don't pull power. You turning up the volume knob is what pulls power. If you hear distortion, you back off. That's how you protect amplifiers. If the fuse blows, it means you had it turned too high, or the impedance was too low. Many HT receivers cannot handle below 6 ohms safely, some even 8 ohms.

Back to the OP:

Exactly what is powering this future sub? A small 100 watt plate amp? A receiver? You don't want to power a sub with a receiver, unless it has a dedicated sub channel, which is kinda rare.

it is an aiwa with a sub channel and a 100 watts going to it. what i was going for when i said that crap was the thing about the impedance. it allows more than the "supposed" amount is and thus fuse burst. at least thats what i was told. any suggestions about the sub though?
