Friend's sub has no output, "thumps" when car is started, but the amp turns on

Any thoughts? He has a W7. The equalizer on the HU shows output, the amp turns on just fine, but the sub has no output. He said that when he started his car (after this whole thing started), the sub went "thump" -- I told him to check his RCA's and grounds, any other ideas?

Tell him to check all his connections, including the ones going to the sub.

He said he was taking out his rear seat so he could check all the connections, I'll update accordingly

The same exact thing happened to me and come to find out the output on the amp went wrong. The sub would thump and the amp would turn on but no sound out of the sub.
