First Car. Need a sound system

Can you guys get me started?

Its a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Edition.

From what I have learned I will need the Following: Two front speakers, two back,Sub, and an amp. Did I get all that right? btw do any of these items come with a cd changer/player or whatever?

Anyway on to my questions.

How much is too much? do I need more than 12s in my trunk?

What is the best brand?

I like Bass more than sound quality...atleast I think so. you see I have been listening to all my music via my headset...sooo I think a nice sound system in a car will be sick period...being my ears are used to headphone bass...**cough cough**...if there is such a thing. I want alot of bass, but I dont want to distort my music either. Any ideas?

I plan on spending 600+ bucks to start. later on I will invest more.

My brother has a 2002 jeep grand cherokee and he says I will need 6 by 9s in front and back.

So can you guys point me in the right direction with the information I have provided?

all feedback appreciated.

Thanks.

Ok, you don't have to get a new cd player if u dont want to...but itd probably be better if u did.

you dont absolutely have to have new front and rear speakers, if u want to go after the bass first, get a sub

need more than 12s? i dont think so from what uve said...a nice set of 12" image dynamics IDQs would be nice, or some FI Qs

amp...depends on what sub(s) you decide to get

you'll also need wiring, probably 4 gauge, but if ur a beginner, i would have a shop do that for you.

You'll also need a box for your subs. Someone on here could make it, or you could have a shop make it...again, i wouldn't attempt it yourself unless you read up a lot around here.

Hopes this helps a little bit

so many inaccuracies...you need a lot of help.

You will not need 6 X 9s...your body style has 6.5s front and rear doors and some have 6.5s in the very back I believe.

Will you need more than 12s? - depends on what you are going for...for a first system I would go with 2 12s sealed

What is the best brand? - Are you ****ing kidding? That's like saying, "what is the best car manufacturer"

search around for some subs and amps, get a couple choices together of what you think you might like, and report back to us and let us know about them and we will give you input on if you should use a certain one or maybe we could point you in the direction of one. read up some more on all the sticky's in this forum and keep reading alot of post and product reviews and such and you will get to understand everything a little better, and that will help with your choice of everything

Ey man gimme a break lol. Why do you think im on a car audio forum?

Aight, so the 96 jeep grand cherokee needs 6 x 9s. I got that right?

2 12s sealed? meaning like together in the box with covering? I mean I used to ride with my older brother all the time when he had his 12s.....but they were old hand me downs...I dont remember the brand names though. For the most part I know what 12s sound like.

Whats the difference between sealed and unsealed? It doesnt minus the bass does it?

So in your opinion what is the best brand?

My friend has kickers....hes always sayin junk like he is the loudest person on his block and what not.

How much does some of this cost?

Thanks

if youcan, i would avoid 6x9's and go with a round speaker, and from the sounds of it you can fit 6.5" speakers in there.

sealed = box with no airflow, just airtight

ported(unsealed) = box with a port, allowing airflow

as for subs, 12's are the best all around subs, the bigger you go, most of the time the lower the sub will hit

and for gear http://www.sonicelectronix.com, there are many other websites.

there are many good brands, the best of which is out of your price range. i recommend audioque.com for subs.

woofersetc.com / onlinecarstereo.com / ikesound.com / millionbuy.com / ebay.com

600 for 2 sets of speakers, h.u., amps, subs is not very much. i personally would spend some money on subs and hu, then later when i have some more money look at speakers and power for them. dont forget about cost of box and amp kits

Yeah as I am now seeing ...all this stuff is really expensive.

Oh well.

So first sub and amp right? I was looking at the solo baric Kicker amp with 2000 watts. Think that will be ok....just 1 sub by itself in my jeep?

Lemme put it like this.

If I went with Image dynamics for my sub, what amp should I get?

Or if I went with Kicker, what amp?

Or do you need to know the exact subwoofer for the brands. Man it sucks not knowing this. I feel like I dont know good from bad.

as for the rest of this is all good to get on here and get some advice when you have kinda sorta an idea i would goto a Car audio place and talk to them about what you want just dont let them sell you just get advice and listen to some of thier set ups

hey pennywise sounds like to me all you want is something that will get loud and be decent for $600 i can recommend some stuff and it would be a killer system but its on you to install it. just LMK if your interested

So I was wondering about this whole ohm thing. so if I want to run dual subs on 1 amp then I need the 4 ohms version right?

As far as subs go im looking at these..

ID

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=5033

Kicker

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=4175

I think either the 1800w or the 1500 will be good. I feel that the kickers might be a better buy being that they are so much cheaper. I just want king kong haha.

oh and can someone tell me why this subwoofer set has waay more watts but is cheaper?

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13998

Out of all of them....I think I want the ID the most, but kicker seems like the best buy....I still need the box...the amp ...and the kit with cables.....you guys said 4 gauge right?

So which of these dual subs would you suggest?

After I figure out what sub I am getting with you guys help...

Then I'll ask what amp and etc to get with that sub.

Thanks
