Can you show us a picture of what your wife's set up looked like?12s... probably not. With the gapping of the 15"s smaller motor, we really couldnt do a 12". And as mentioned elsewhere, for IBs it is usually all about displacement. You dont have to follow the Vas rules and I have done many installs ignoring the IB Vas rule with excellent results. Since there is no enclosure, you mount about as large of a driver in the baffle space as you can... works well.My wife wanted all of her trunk space so we did a pair of 15s in IB several years ago. Sounded great and played deep. But no SPL records with IB either... not too mention that mechanical power handling does go down and we have designed these to take that into account. No need for 1000+W coils when at 500W RMS Xmax is reached at 20Hz. Definitely different design goals with these.
Thanks,
Scott
This is interesting.I'll post this on an OB board I'm on, I think it could be appreciated...
Something like this with Fi drivers would be a cool project :

I was wondering the samething. Front baffle wit no sides would look koo in a room. This is interesting.
Is this just a board with the sub in it with no sides or back? Also, is that a full range driver in the upper right?
How complicated would it be to pull something like this off?
Pretty much. Yeah, the driver is a full range, in that case a Fostex Sigma...Is this just a board with the sub in it with no sides or back? Also, is that a full range driver in the upper right?
Get a big sheet of wood, cut a hole in it, plop driver in, poof, done. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifHow complicated would it be to pull something like this off?
Planar speakers like Magnepans and electrostatic speakers are "all front, no sides" as well, totally different concepts though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifFront baffle wit no sides would look koo in a room.
Sounds like a build i can complete.Pretty much. Yeah, the driver is a full range, in that case a Fostex Sigma...

The size of the baffle and the swept area determines how low it goes, so people who really try to maximize bass response from OB's use hinged side "wings" and big drivers. They're almost always run active.

Sorry for taking this OT, didn't think it would get any interest here at all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
