Line out converter issues

Ive got a 2021 Ford F250. As we all know the issues in changing the radio due to everything being integrated into the screen, i used an Audio Control LOC to adapt into the radio. Out of the LOC to an equalizer for more audio control, to a 4 channel and a mono amp (Rockford Fosgate). The amps have a maximum 5 volt low level input. LOC is up to 9 volts output. I vahe LOC turned all the way down but still cant stop amps from clipping. Im willing to make changes but not sure where to go here to fix the issues. Im using the EQ because i listen to a lot of different genre of music so i prefer the shift on the fly capability of EQ over DSP. I can get a reasonable volume from it before clipping but not loudness i prefer. Open to suggestions here. Thanks

Thank you for your question! I can help you troubleshoot your audio setup for your Ford F250.

Does the F-150 or F-250 use a bose system? The Ford F-250 may be on lower ohms for the factory speakers they have. 3 ohms or less. That may have an affect on the new amp you just installed. Changing all of them may be necessary for you to hear loud music then. LOC? It will have to be a bose line output converter with the head unit and new amp added. All make it 4 ohms. Plus bypass the factory amp too. So lots of work you've got yet. Just checking, what has been done.

No problem. You know what this is like? It's like taking an exam in school and see it you've got the problem correct. The job is easy, just the work done on paper is the real thing and the show. First. It's like in electronics you're the only person to figure out if your system needs another capacitor in your system. Or a virtual ground to your radio system so that it will work properly. Understanding first electronics is a must. Then car audio will be easy.

No not a Bose system. Its an XLT truck so just the stock radio. Using Audio Control LC5i LOC and the line out voltage is up to 9.5V. Amps input is 5V or less. Ive got LOC turned as low as it will go and amps still clip at higher volume.

Is it still too loud / clip with the amplifier gain all the way down?

Did you try it without the EQ inline? Wonder if that might not be able to handle the Audiocontols output and it could be clipping at the higher levels before the amps.

Hard to say. If no other ideas, perhaps look for a line level attenuator with RCA cable inputs and outputs, and put it between the Audiocontrol and the EQ and "maybe" can turn the LOC down a bit further like that. Perhaps something like the RCA cable "bass / level knobs" might work. Hard to say.

Now thats a damned good idea. Im going to give that a shot

If you do try that style level control, be aware you may also need another short length RCA cable(s) or a set of adapters to hook it up as it has female RCA connectors on both ends. You likely already understand that, but easy to miss something simple and not be able to hook it up when it arrives.

If you set the LOC's Gain at half, you should get around 4.5v out of it. That should be managable for the amplifiers. Having too low a Gain setting can cause clipping as well. Also re-check your amp's main fuse and power cables. Quite a few times I have found cable sheathing crimped under contact screws causing a power drop.

I will check this out. Im going to test the output with a multimeter and test tone to see where i am. Thanks
