Fi Comes out with New line of subs

how does this reproduce bass. would see that it would just making wooshing noises, and no output.
i know i know, it OBVIOUSLY works, it just seems so weird to me since i have been stuck with boxes for any system ive ever done.
we did a IB install in my friends honda civic... sounds really ****in good for 1 12'' sub..

i never ever thought it would sound remotely good... i was suprised

thats what i figured. i mean there is obviously a reason people do this, cause it works. it just seems awkward to me

My guess would be low end extension and a very flat curve since the enclosure wouldn't impact the drivers response like it does on a normal sealed/ported box. Smaller power requirements I'm guessing too.

And who doesn't want an attic enclosure, thats just good times

I'll post this on an OB board I'm on, I think it could be appreciated...
Something like this with Fi drivers would be a cool project :

Wow, I would love to see some basic drawings and additional pictures of those. They look awesome.

They make bass because the Qts is relatively high...for those woofers pictured, I believe they have a Qts of over 1. But people have had good luck with woofers down to a Qts of 0.6 or so.

What was your source for those pics? AJ? I would like to get more info if possible.

12s... probably not. With the gapping of the 15"s smaller motor, we really couldnt do a 12". And as mentioned elsewhere, for IBs it is usually all about displacement. You dont have to follow the Vas rules and I have done many installs ignoring the IB Vas rule with excellent results. Since there is no enclosure, you mount about as large of a driver in the baffle space as you can... works well.

My wife wanted all of her trunk space so we did a pair of 15s in IB several years ago. Sounded great and played deep. But no SPL records with IB either... not too mention that mechanical power handling does go down and we have designed these to take that into account. No need for 1000+W coils when at 500W RMS Xmax is reached at 20Hz. Definitely different design goals with these.

Thanks,

Scott

Martin King's Quarter Wave speaker site...though they aren't 1/4-wave speakers, I don't know why they're up there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Awesome. I will look into these.

I know AudioCircle has a dedicated forum for OB's, although the majority of the manufacturers there are asshats, IMO.

DIYAudio and Audioasylum are both normal places that have a bunch of OB talk usually.
