Fi Comes out with New line of subs

What home application is this mostly suited for? Movies/Music?
Music, mainly...I don't really go on home theater forums so I don't know if anyone's done it for movies, but they seem like they're perfect jazz/acoustic/small arrangement speakers.

I don't know of much in between.
Bah, you can find used Rane gear for less than a grand. Check Ebay.

Is the 18" sub plus full range called a dipole? I am not very familiar with home audio terminology.
"Dipole" refers to the response pattern of the speaker - it looks like a figure-8, so if you were standing directly above it they'd be sound coming from both sides of the panel perpendicularly.

Like that, if you picture the vertical line in the middle to be the plane of the speaker.

Normal box speakers would have half of that figure-8 removed...

Planars like the Maggies, and electrostats are dipoles as well, so they interact with their surroundings a lot more than typical sealed or ported enclosures do...which is why they're such a ***** to place //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
