Few SI MAG 12'' Questions

Did you order the Massive Audio amp?

I had some test done on an indentical internally built amp to the P1500.1 and it will not complete a 1 ohm resistive power test -- sent it out to K&B Audio for testing. I have used it to power a single 12" Mag at 1 ohm nominal with no issues, though, but I only tested it at my regular volume which is not so abusive.

Just a heads up for you. Not a bad amp overall, but the line is overrated power wise and have so-so stability as the load drops in my experience.

I havent ordered it yet, are there some better options to run the MAG?

Those Massive Audio amps are one of the few companies that their rated power is what they actually do, they dont over rate nor under rate their amps.....its sort of refreshing to see a company do that.
I will have to see how the 3000.1 moves the mag 15's. I am sure it will do just fine:D

I'm afraid that this is not correct. My P1500.1 equivalent bench tested as follows:

12.5V 4 Ohm: 388W @ 3% THD, 38A

14.4V 4 Ohm 520W @ 3% THD, 43A

12.5V 2 Ohm: 732W @ 3% THD, 64A

14.4V 2 Ohm 810W @ 3% THD, 75A

Tested by Serge at K&B Audio.

The amp is rated at 600 RMS @ 4 ohms and 900 RMS @ 2 ohms with 1% THD. It did not achieve these numbers with a 3% THD measurement.

As for the 1250 watts RMS rating listed in the manual (they say 1500 on the site, but that is like MTX and their dynamic rating -- check the manual for details)... I don't see that happening at 1% THD or close to it.

The Massive amp is NOT a crappy amp... but it does NOT do rated power either. And it also exibits questionable stability at 1 ohm, as it will not complete a bench power test at 1 ohm resistive. As I said before, though, I was able to run a 1 ohm nominal load on the amp without problems -- but I used it very gently. When I got the amp back from K&B Audio I also discovered that one of the rectifier diodes was toasted during the attempt at a 1 ohm resistive test... I replaced all of them to be safe and it works fine now, but keep that in mind.

How long ago did you buy that amp? And who did you get it from?

And I can't wait to see those tests on the saz-1500d 15 at .5 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

lol sergie at kb audio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif dude totally ****ed a tantrum that was sent to him. i bought it blown and sent it to pg and the tech called me and asked who worked on it, cause it didn't look like he knew what he was doing. i guess he screwed it up so bad they had to replace the whole board

I got it about 8 months ago from the factory where Massive Audio has their P series built. And to be fair to Massive, I'm not posting where that is nor will I answer via PM or e-mail.

I am certainly very anxious to see how the SAZ-1500Ds do at 0.5 ohm as well. I am fairly confident that they can handle the load, but testing real world is always the best way to find out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

iceteebone,

I don't have any information about K&B except from the bench testing I had done, which appears to have been done correctly. It is my thought that the P1500.1 simply will not sustain a 1 ohm resistive load, and that this load presented an issue quickly enough to get around the protection circuitry (which is actually quite good). I suppose mileage may vary in dealings with anyone, as there is also a good bit of positive feedback in regards to K&B Audio.
