Dynamat A Sub Box

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif It isn't a bad idea for some fiberglass enclosures that need additional mass in the curves, thinner parts, etc.

But dynamatting 3/4" or thicker MDF/13 Ply Baltic is kind of pointless, unless you like to waste Dynamat!

Ouch! And as too why... Because I just made a box and when I knock on it, it sounds hollow (LOL, I know) but don't you want boxes, baffles, etc to sound deader than a quadrapalegic's *** life?

I got some strong old school beliefs on this subject. First "it sounds hollow" what did you make this out of 1/4 plywood? Is it sealed/ported? I can tell you my experiences with sealed boxes as I prefer them over ported. Build it with 3/4" mdf ,properly brace it, Build it 1 chamber per woofer (don't put 2 woofers in a shared enclosure, simply add the volume of wood and split it making 2 chambers, added benefit of adding more bracing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and better woofer control by the box) add about 1/3 poly fill to it and I guarantee it won't sound hollow. Same principals apply to ported in my guess. So maybe if you don't want to rebuild deadening might help you here. Some people swear it helps. I think in a true blind listening test you would be hard picked to tell the difference. I tend to lean towards the 'I know it deadened so I think it sounds better/deeper'.

Correctly designed and built mdf boxes. Waste of time and money but if you like doing it go ahead it can't hurt any.

Fiberglass and custom pods. Can benefit greatly from the deadening and mass adding building materials out there almost a necessity.

Just an old mans take on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
