With space at such a premium in a dorm... Horns are go big or go home.i would have made a tline or horn.
Yah its the HO series, requires a smaller box, i modeled it in bassbox and it comes out pretty clean and flat. Those bash amps have a subsonic filter set at 18 hz so make sure that the cone displacment doesnt exceed that above 18 hz otherwise ur gonna bottom out easily..75 cubic feet is WAY too small for that. I'd even say that a 1 in front of it would be too small. Give it 2.5 at that tuning to be really hittin the notes. These subs don't like to be choked up, as I found out switching from a 3 cube box to a 2 cube one to put in the dorm. Completely different behavior.
edit: Take that back. That's the HO, so 2 cubes should be perfect for it.
you ran the amp at 2ohms?!!?! did anything happen to it?? did it overheat and/or shut down? it's a dayton 70watt amp?Okay y'all, I'm now onto my third dorm sub. Here was the first:

Two TangBand 5.25" subs off 70w plate amp. Problems with this one:
1. Nowhere near enough output.
2. Amp was running at 2 ohms, making it hard to play different kinds of music without having to adjust the gain (overexcursion wasn't a possibility, it was a matter of how much //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif ).
3. Too large for the room.
No pictures of the second one, but here's the design anyway:

Problems with this one:
1. Again, too small Vb for the driver (wait and see!), too large for the room.
2. The ****ing jigsaw broke when cutting out the amp hole, so I cut it 2" too tall for some genius reason, which meant that I had to put in a 2" strip of wood in the hole (unglued and all!), and seal it not with silicone, but mighty duct tape //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wow.gif.23d729408e9177caa2a0ed6a2ba6588e.gif
3. Too boomy anyway, aka, couldn't play harmonic bass notes at high volume without running shit together
Now, on to the new one! This uses the same driver and amplifier, but is a completely different alignment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif I still wouldn't trust bassbox over your intuition man. .75 cubes ported for that is too small. You might get away with 1.5, but not .75.Yah its the HO series, requires a smaller box, i modeled it in bassbox and it comes out pretty clean and flat. Those bash amps have a subsonic filter set at 18 hz so make sure that the cone displacment doesnt exceed that above 18 hz otherwise ur gonna bottom out easily.
BIB pipe horns would have been great if the Qts of those drivers was high enough...they don't take up that much room in the corners //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gifWith space at such a premium in a dorm... Horns are go big or go home.
I doubt his room is big enough to support wavelengths lower than 25-30hz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gifOr you could have BIB's big enough that they go lower than almost all subs anyways... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
what was your box tuned to and what do u have the gain set at on your plate amp?I had an old yamaha reciever, 2 1970's infinity floor speakers, and a Mach 5 MAW 12 in a 4th order on a PE 240w amp. I was able to piss off everyone in the hall //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I already have two violations, one literally within 4 minutes of bringing up the second design. I turned on Don't Say Nuthin at -20db on the receiver, and apparently the female RA below me's clock fell off her dresser, so i got written up. The next time was a few days ago watching War of the Worlds with this smokin hot *****. When that ****er comes out of the ground in the beginning, there is this one LOOWWWW note, literally like 15-18hz IIRC, and the sub was moving so much air that the people at the desk got mad and wrote me up for that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gifi dont get how you guys dont get in trouble....i had people from like 3 floors down coming and knocking on my door when i was in the dorms asking me to turn it off or they'd have to get an RA
