Door Pod ideas

expresscomposites.com

but it's cheaper from some other places online

you would be ok wtih hd stuff for this project, but you would really appreciate using the better stuff. Please don't try a sub box with the hd crap though. i know some people do it/have done it etc., but i guess they just haven't tried the good stuff.

i think wallmart has is for cheap. but youll have to look at the date on it because you dont want to end up with some old and gonged up resin. i think the mat is very cheap to., bur only cheap if you re doing a small project if youre going with a big project torrow ill get you a shitl load of links to fiberglass stores.

When making door pods/kicks, use grill cloth to stretch over the MDF ring and supports.

I like to use thin lycra swimsuit material . It's very light , and stretches in more directions than a romanian gymnast //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif It stretches very tightly, but doesn't sag after resin is applied . Walmart has it in two different thicknesses, thin for kicks and pods is $2.50 a yard . The thicker stuff is $3.50 a yard //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

My fat arse would be more apt to wrap a pod in a speedo than wear it . I wouldn't want to see that myself , let alone subject anyone else to it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

For good quality resin and materials I use U.S. Composites (http://www.uscomposites.com). Also, ditto what was stated earlier. Your grills will come off. Here is a pic of my door panels. I basically cut off the whole lower half of the panel but I first had to remove the melted plastic tabs. I'm not saying they're the best thing since sliced bread but I'm happy with them. Just my two cents.

See, that's what I'm talking about when I say quality work. It's well integrated, sonically intelligent & has a factory look in terms of finish. Nice work.

For me, doing custom door pods needs that level of quality since they're such a visual focal point. And that kind of work doesn't happen from reading a few online tutorials - it comes from solid experience working with the materials & an investment in the right equipment & time to make it happen.

So Baseballer - if you want that kind of results (and who wouldn't?) then either hire a pro (cheaper & easier) or expect to put some real time & money into learning the skill. If you are OK with the "ghetto pods" that other dude did, you can probably wing that on the cheap.

I have to concede that the ghetto pods were actually pretty good for a first timer.

you make a very good point. Customtronic you got any more pics of the buildup. I want to see exactly how you did that because well thats exactly what i want to do. Thanks for the help guys.

Wow i just noticed your pictures on carsound. And i disagree. They are better then sliced bread. Question though how did you attach the bottom to the rest of the panel and what fabric did you use?
