Do caps really **** that bad ?

Since you have the cap, install it BUT don't come back here crying when your alternator dies over the course of the next three to six months!
You guys crack me up. Alternator dieing?LOL... don't worry bout what these guys are saying. I've had a 40 farad cap in my 2003 beetle with 1750 watt rms system for 6 years now and haven't had one prob with my alternator or dimming for that matter. Also have the same cap in my lady's trailblazer with 1600watt rms( goin on 4 years) with no probs and very little dimming and now I have a yukon denali that I once again use the same model cap in. I agree that a cap alone won't fix dimming but it is not a bad thing to have one and if installed correctly with all the other appropriate wiring and a good battery it will only help your system...

Suggestions on batteries ?? and no im not made of money..sumthing under 200
What is it with you kids who spend a small fortune on a subwoofer setup then want to take the cheapest way possible to supply it with enough current? Either save up and do it right or continue to chase your tail.

Will another battery help? Probably. Do you have a way to top off that extra battery in the event that your stock alternator can't keep it charged?

look into deka. dont put the cap in... its bad for the electrical. my friend put a 2f cap in his car, instantly .2v drop, he ran it for 3 months and his alt took a shit on him... now he has a h/o alt and listens to me when i tell him caps ****.

ive got quoted on an alternator before and it was over 800 im good on that...small fortune on a system i dont think so... subs and box=$300...amp like $250 HU=$300...

you can get by with a decent batt and a stock alt... watch your voltage, if it dipps low turn it down, if you got really bad voltage drops then get the alt. its just common sense to keep your system running long.

Yeah, right... listen to the new guy with 5 posts. A capacitor is NOT a substitute for a proper electrical system and if you have a proper electrical system you don't need the capacitor. Basically, a capacitor is like putting a band aid over a bullet wound.

Also, the OP appears to be getting serious dimming with 1,200 watts RMS. You really think a 4 farad cap constantly trying to charge itself isn't going to cause that alternator to work harder?

if you listen to regular music not the crappy rap with test tones toss it in it will be fine since you already have it. A batt would have been better but unless you can sell it and buy one you may as well use it. If you start playing the rap with tones/Spl the cap becomes parasitic according to what I have read. I have an old 3 farad that I have in my trunk Its not hooked up right now but I was playing with it and it kept a half a volt steadier with it on and that makes it a little easier on the cars electronics.

i have searched dude..dam u are really starting to get annoying...i appreciate the help and i read the 3rd post u sent me with the link but knock it off
