Buying a Router... Which One???

What should i be looking for

hp/brand/bit sizes/bits i'll need

Looking for best bang for the buck preferably under $200

I know a lot of big names on the forum don't use $200 dollar + routers.

BJFish uses a $60 dollar one from Home Depot, Pioneer~Saturn uses a $99 dollar one.

I've been told if you buy any brand name router, you'll probably like it. I'd look for something that has a plunger and fixed based. Best of both worlds.

I'd spend >$100 bucks on the router, and the rest of your budget on router bits. I know HarborFreight has deals on router bits all the time. You should check with them.

Check out that, has the fixed and plunge base. My dad just got one of xmas but hasnt got much of a chance to use it.

You'll want to get a few round over bits (different sizes.), a straight bit or an up-spiral bit to cut circles, and a jasper jig. You can make your own Jasper Jig, if you want to save the money.

I just picked up a Porter Cable 693 with the plunge and fixed base options. Sadly, I have a lot of home improvement projects in addition to enclosures that I need to design //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Don't buy your router bits from Harbor Freight. Sure, you'll save some money, but you'll be buying new bits once a week and you'll be burning up your wood.

Buy good router bits the first time, brands like Freud or Whiteside, and they'll last you a while and work way better. Each bit is $15-20.
