crossover for xxx 6.5's, ID cd 1e's

You were told wrong. Changing speaker impedance will change the requirements for the passive xover. You determine the right components to use in the passive based on speaker impedance (and desired xover point/slope). In other words, buy a comp set with 4ohm speakers, then replace the mids with the 2ohm xxx's, and your xover point will be drastically (and negatively) affected. Unless you want to make the passive yourself, or find a comp set that uses 2ohm drivers (but then your horns wont match), you are gonna really need to go active.
