Couple quick questions

1) Where does everone on this board buy their speaker wire from?

2) In order to hook up my amp to the head unit I need RCA plugs. What is the best place online to buy RCA plugs? Are banana plugs the same as RCA plugs?

3) Should I go with 12 or 14 gauge? My speakers will have about 170watts each.

4) Does the gauge of the RCA wires that connects the amp to the head unit matter?

5) What gauge wire should I use to connect the amp to the sub? The sub is only about 350watts RMS.

My amp has 4 channels, I am going to use 1 channel for left speaker, 1 channel for right speaker and combing channels 3&4 for the amp. My headunit only has 2 inputs, white and red.

7) Do I get 2 y cables and combine the RCA from channel 3&4 into it and then combine channel 1&2 into the y cable for the other input? Does it matter which cable goes into the red/white input?

8) I also have two tweeters with crossovers, they are CDT, how do I hook them up?

9) Finally, my CDT speakers have a bit of rust where the speaker wire connects, how do I get the rust off?

10) My bass knob is missing the wire that connects it to the amp. Which wire do I need to buy? It looks like it has a phone jack in it.

I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

knukonceptz.com is the answer to all your questions. kolossus flex wire btw

1) Where does everone on this board buy their speaker wire from?
Knukonceptz.com or make a wtb thread.. lots of people have it..

2) In order to hook up my amp to the head unit I need RCA plugs. What is the best place online to buy RCA plugs? Are banana plugs the same as RCA plugs?
same answer.. people sell em all the time on here.. make sure you get the right length.. 6 meters is what a lot of places sell em as.. and no!

3) Should I go with 12 or 14 gauge? My speakers will have about 170watts each.
either or.. the length is so small it won't matter much.. 12 if you wanna sleep better at night

4) Does the gauge of the RCA wires that connects the amp to the head unit matter?
no.. they don't sell rca by gauge only by shielding and tips.. gold plat etc etc.. shielded unshielded twisted etc

5) What gauge wire should I use to connect the amp to the sub? The sub is only about 350watts RMS.

My amp has 4 channels, I am going to use 1 channel for left speaker, 1 channel for right speaker and combing channels 3&4 for the amp. My headunit only has 2 inputs, white and red.
amp to the sub since its such a low power the speaker wire will work fine..

the inputs on the headunit are for adding audio/video.. the outputs are what you want to look at.. you should have 4-6.. 2 if its a cheaper head/unit..

7) Do I get 2 y cables and combine the RCA from channel 3&4 into it and then combine channel 1&2 into the y cable for the other input? Does it matter which cable goes into the red/white input?
Read above... if you misprinted inputs and meant outputs say so and I will let you know

8) I also have two tweeters with crossovers, they are CDT, how do I hook them up?
did they come with the speakers you plan on running? I will guide you further after your answer

9) Finally, my CDT speakers have a bit of rust where the speaker wire connects, how do I get the rust off?
sand paper just get some medium/fine grit and pinch the speaker terminals with the sandpaper and go back and forth..

10) My bass knob is missing the wire that connects it to the amp. Which wire do I need to buy? It looks like it has a phone jack in it.
None.. you don't need to use it especially asking the questions you are you will misuse it GUARANTEED

I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
no problem

Kyle, thanks for all of the info, you've pretty much answered all of my questions.

One thing that I'm still unsure about is this: My amp has 4 channels, but my headunit (a 5 year old Alpine) only has two outputs.

So if I understand correctly I take one of the outputs on the headunit and connect it to channels 3&4 (for the sub). Do I need to get a Y connector? Since the channels are combined I think that plugging the wire from the headunit into only one channel should be fine, correct?

Ok so now what about the other two channels? I need to run a wire from the other output on the headunit and I need to get a Y cable, in order to plug it both into channel 1 & 2 at the same time.

About the tweeters, I bought CDT-61s about 4 years ago. They came with the speakers, tweeters and crossovers. I had this system installed in my car but took it out 3 years ago when I sold it and it was just sitting in my basement. I could really use some help on how to connect the tweeters and the crossovers.

I've thinking about getting Karma SS 12 Gauge Speaker Wires, is that a good choice? This wire can also be used to hook up the sub to the amp? They are about 2 1/2 feet apart, 350watts RMS.

Finally, you mentioned that RCA cables are all the same, am I safe buying them at Walmart or should I buy somewhere else?

Thanks again!
