burned up 2 type r 12"s last night

Isn't it possible that with a 4v input (or is it still 6.5 on an 8600?) that he clipped his output signal with his amp gain halfway up?

The gain knob is not a volume knob my friend.

To respond to stones-

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about, by turning up his amp and bass boost on his deck he did not send simply more power to his speakers, he also ended up clipping the output which is what blew the speakers. I fail to see how you can even think that a clean 500watts would fry a coil on type-r simply because the box was sealed.

**** im getting alot of people that want these blown subs. i may have to put them in the for sale forum and whoever has the best offer will get them. they are cosmetically perfect.

*shakes head* you don't get it? the point is that if he was NOT using the sealed box, all of the following wouldn't have happened because there would have been more output. that's the root of the situation //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

no..the ported box would have more output so you wouldn't have pushed your amp and HU to achieve the levels you wanted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm sorry, but I don't agree with that. He should have known not to just turn up his gain to get more bass, but rather to change out the box or get a bigger amp. You can't say that his decision to get a sealed box directly caused his subs to blow.

should have? sure, i agree with that %110. did he? apparently not //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i never said that the sealed box caused his subs to blow, as i mentioned that on the first page. i said clearly that had he chosen a box with more output (hence ported instead) he would not have turned the gain and bass boost so far up to acheive a spl that would have already been there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Right, or if he had bought a better amp. If you are looking into an equipment mistake, there are more things you can blame it on then just a sealed box, but if that is what you feel like saying then I guess go for it, I'll just look the other way.

Lets review-

-Clipping does not destroy voice coils, too much power does.

-I never claimed that the subs blew solely because they were in a sealed box.

You are reading what you want to read and ignoring everything else for the simple reason that you are a gay loser looking for a fight.

I am willing to bet that reading this response is giving you cheap ****** thrills.

You ****** predators make me sick, you should be ashamed of yourself.

thats why i was sending 3kw to a 15" type-r and it didnt blow but if it wouldve been a clipped signal it wouldve been toast in seconds? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rotflol.gif.b453361716769b8110ddefc85ff03cd2.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/waycrazy.gif.f4a380c3f94043939fd369defd9e6be2.gif
