box can hamper output, but this is what i think happended...

sealed box, woofer can handle more power, yet have less output...with 800 watts, or 1000 watts, you keep scratching your heads saying "I want more, and more"...well, possibly bass boost or gains went up...and then it was louder, for a short time. Clipped signal, burnt coils= trashed woofers.

True, I bet Alpine will not cover warranty as most manufactures won't bought online.

Another shameless plug to pay more now and get a warranty, or throw $250 in the trash......just a thought.

thanks polecat. i did turn the bass gain up on the head unit. the cd i was listening to had low levels and i turn it up not knowing it was going to burn up the coils. one speaker is locked up and the other sounds distorted sh*ty

i geuss pushing them to get the bass down in a sealed box was a bad idea.

i sure know how to throw away money loaned to me. be paying out the *** for something i don't have or can use when time comes. just awful how much this stuff cost to have it fail shortly after.

u prolly had them distorting, even though ur gain wasnt up that much as you say....1000w isnt gonna blow 2 type r's, hell, thats what theyre rated at from teh manufacture...ive had my type r's for close to 3 months now at least running off of a hifonics bx2005d at 1 ohm...power wasnt to blame unless it was distorted/clipping or they were a bad batch of subs...sorry to hear ur loss //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
