haha i know you did you didnt want me to take it from you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

thats why i was sending 3kw to a 15" type-r and it didnt blow but if it wouldve been a clipped signal it wouldve been toast in seconds? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rotflol.gif.b453361716769b8110ddefc85ff03cd2.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/waycrazy.gif.f4a380c3f94043939fd369defd9e6be2.gif
You have no idea how stupid you just made yourself look..

I have no idea how stupid he made himself look either?

Please use your reasoning to explain how you could blow a sub with an amp that puts out less power then the sub is rated to take with the sub being in a ported box.

Lets review--Clipping does not destroy voice coils, too much power does.

-I never claimed that the subs blew solely because they were in a sealed box.

Why did this happen?

He put them in an enclosure that did not allow the subs to perform to his satisfaction, without realizing this he compensated by driving the speakers with more power then they could handle and ending up damaging the coils.

How to avoid this in the future?

Place the subs in an enclosure that will allow them to perform much better without the need to overdrive them.
You mentioned no other reason for failure then the box. 500 watts is well within operating range for a type-r. How are you going to end up with a thermal failure off of 500 watts?

wait what was it that polecats sig says, something along the lines of dont argue with a moron because people that are watching will think you are to, im done arguing here... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm speechless.

Just do a me favour and explain to the forum exactly what happened to the subs for me.

Then explain what the thread starter should do in the future to avoid this.

Then explain exactly what causes a thermal overload of a voice coil.

Come you guys are the smart ones here, show everybody just how smart you are.

Well he said he turned the bass up to 5 out of 6 on his deck and his amp was half way up and bassboast was on, then cranked it to 35 out of 40 on your deck. Gee, I am not sure why they blew! Should have been fine.

Not trying to be a dick, but you clipped the shit out of them. So I would take this as a lesson learned. We all have been there one time or another. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

according to stones he overpowered them he didnt clip them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

woah waoh.... since when does clipping not destroy subs??? isnt that where the "underpowering" = destroyed subs myth comes from? a clipped signal killing a speaker?

If clipping destroys speakers and not power is it not logical to assume that you could hook up a 1000 watt RMS subwoofer to one of the channels of a head unit and burn the hell out of the voice coils??.

I'm waiting for your answer.

u can run a pyle amp, peg the gains, and turn the h/u all the way upto 40, that wont kill the sub? that would be clipping not overpowering...
