Building the top notch SQ system

"Can't polish a Turd"

Thats a funny quote. If you think about it, you may not be able to polish it, but you can make it into oil, sell it for a whole lot, and get some gold //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Have you ever ran it on a RTA? Getting the curve right will lead to a better stage. You are going to have a hard time getting TA right running passive. When you move the tweeter you move the mid.
You could've gotten to this without all the bs. On a technical note, recently read in a thread...you and I may've both been on it, that you can't TA tweeters. It's a matter of intensity of something...can't remember exactly.

My current stage now is dead center, when I move my head over the center console, it's directly in front of me. Hard to speak of the height, it's a little lower with some songs and higher with others. Every single instrument has its space and I can tell which instruments are closer than others. One thing I noticed with likes of type-Rs, pioneers, etc is the lack of depth. Even if they offer plenty of separation, the image I get is a wall of instruments with no depth. Btw I did try your suggestion to cross the mids lower again and the amount of bass coming from the speakers is too much. These things put out a lot of it.

EQ the mids down some. You want them playing at least 80 up front, that will give you some kick drum depth. I have to tame the Hertz also, they tend to shake the doors and that's unwanted.

You still need to TA tweeters, that's the main point, higher the freq the more it pulls you to it. When you move your head to the center of the car the passenger side needs to be more dominate. That's why you only set TA for your seat. If you are listening to big band does it sound like some instruments are on the left and some are on the right? Right at the pillars with the center still there? PM me your number, I have a link I used to HIfi demo tracks also I'll dig up the one from DIYMA that tells what you should be listening for.

I've got a lot to learn. I have no clue what your talking about. Maybe I'm not that strict on SQ like I thought. I just like clarity, no distortion. Now I need to figure out all this stuff your talking about. I bet my stage is terrible, IDEK what that is. But I have Type-Rs so maybe I can't get the effect you speak of.

I'm trying to convince myself right now I don't need to swap the 4 channel for a TRU or Mc. Lucky that would involve a full rebuild in the trunk I'm not trying to do.
I'd do all the comparative analysis in the world before making that jump. Also, I feel like speakers can swallow up some of the amplifier differences. In other words, differences between amps would be less apparent on crappier speakers. You want to be confident that your speaker will allow the upgrade to shine. I think there are amps that can operate as an A class and also as an A/B class...probably worth looking at if you're going the expensive amp route.

Hell's Racers by The Dave Meyers Effect. This is an old surf guitar track that isn't necessarily a SQ track but the race cars in the very short beginning of the track image outside of the vehicle to the left and right, and some of the guitar riffs are outside, too.

Also the old classic, "Tequila" by The Challengers...hand claps and shouts/howls that are outside the vehicle.

And these are a few tracks that I think Andy Wehmeyer recommended in another thread...

The Pink Panther track from the older IASCA disc has a Triangle strike that will image outside of the physical boundaries of the vehicle.

And the track from the EMMA competition disc where there is a guy that walks from side to side across the stage.

Mark Knopfler - Boom, Like That (a song about fast food, LOL)

There is a guitar riff that will image outside the vehicle. It's short but sweet.

'Moments in love" by the art of noise. its got a wide range of sounds, excellent image placement and tonnes of depth and width. In my car the xylophone on the far left actually comes from outside my drivers window and you can even hear the notes move forward and backwards as they are played. This is the version you want to get: Art of Noise: Moments In Love [Quiet Storm] - YouTube

The Final Cut, and Waters' "The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking", were recorded with Holophonics (comparable to binaural recording) , intended to perform best with headphones. Possibly why a good car system reproduces the effect so well.

Waters later used Q Sound on "Amused to Death" with even better effect.

Needless to say my CD collection has grown

Yes, this is my favorite and I've been using it as the guiding light:
GlassWolf's Pages

Some papers on there also have links to other sites where they engage in more in-depth analysis on various subjects.
Sweet deal. Thank you so much for this. Now I have some nice toilet reading for the next 10 years //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
gotta google up each one like the rest of us did when we started out.
Yeah, @NoLoud4U gave me some good links and what looks to be good reads. Just the longer I'm on here, the more stupid I feel when it comes to this. So over the next few weeks I'll read through these a few times to get a better grasp of things. Maybe I won't sound so ignorant. I bet I'll go back and laugh at myself for how stupid I once was. But, ya gotta start somewhere right?

Thanks all for the help, and not making this a hostile environment for newbies like me. I've already learned a great deal here.
