Building system in my suburban

I used to hook up car audio systems as a side job when I was a teen but been out of the game for 5-10 years now.

Anyway I have a full sized mid 90's suburban and want to put a system in it that will rival the hard hitters in town.

I would like to stay at or under $2k.

Electrical wise- I know I will need to do the big 3, get a high output alternator and a second battery near the amp.

Ive always wanted a single high quality 18" woofer and was thinking about the 18" RE AUDIO MX18D2 but have read good things about the much cheaper Audioque subs, in particular the audioque 18" ,I plan on building a massive ported enclosure similar to DD's design.

For an amp - I was thinking about the Boss OL5KD Mono (2250 rms @ 4ohm. // 3500 rms @ 2ohm)

I know alot of people bash Boss as junk, but have heard alot of good things about there amps as being good "bang for the buck"

So when you tell me to forget this amp- can you tell me why?

What does this amp lack in performance versus a similar spec'd high dollar amp?

I want clean sounding bass but want to shake windows from down the block...

Would this settup give me what I want or would I be better off getting 4 /12"'s or 4 /15"'s ???

If I go with the audioque 18" woofer- what are some decent priced amp suggestions that will handle the 18.

Any help is appreciated.

Hmmmmm Decatur.... I used to go there on the weekends. Nice city. Is that drive thru liquor store still there? Last time I was down there EI by Nelly was hot. Not to me, but they liked that shit down there.

You pretty much have the room for anything you want. I would do 4 15s or 2 18s. The AQs are a nice choice. You could do 2 AQ 3500Ds on them and I doubt anyone down there would be touching you. Just make sure your charging system is up to par and you'll be ok. I know a guy who could make you a box, but you're 2.5 hours from me and he's an hour more from where I live.

Edit: didn't see the 2k budget. Mlstrass was the guy I said who could make you the box. You could still do 2 18s and a 3500D and be under 2 Gs.

Big 3..upgraded main batt, good 2nd batt, 2x HDC18s and a AQ3500 would work nice. Nothin special or different as quite alot of people have 2x 18s in big suvs but it would def get loud. And i have no idea how much that would cost..but if you shop around maybe find stuff used off here would probly work.

Decatur---nice city----LOL

I wouldnt call it that,

Especially lately, cops are out so thick its rediculous,

There for a month they had road side pull overs and hella people where getting dui's - I got one myself.

So now Im building my system while I have no L.

We have several drive up liquor stores, which one you talking about?

Probablly the one on eldo, its there.

Anyway....

I have all the tools in my garage to make my own box. And have always built my own to save money and to build them how I want them.

I may go with the 2 AQ 18's

Those $35 hifonics look ok- but will they last?, hows there sound quality.

I wonder If 10-12 of them would sound better than the 2 AQ 18's ???

The Hifonics perform with subs like the Kicker CVRs and other subs like that. I would go with the 16 12s anyday over the 2 18s.
Would be much louder than 2 18s.
Id have to agree but **** thats alot of subs.

Those 35$ hifonics really perform on the same level as the CVRs? If thats true wow..I might have to get like 8 of those. 280$ for 8x 12s shipped wow..

And I dont think id pay ..wut was it like 450$ for a 2000 watt hifonics amp. You can get better 2k watts amps for that price than a hifonics. Not that there bad..I run one myself but i dont think 450$ is something id drop on that. Nvm just noticed its 2600..eh still ive seen gp3000s go for 400 all over here.

Those Hifonics are a great bang for the buck... I have had several of them I put 4 in the trunk of my Cavilier with a 2000 watt RMS Hifonics Goliath and it sounded awsome... I paid $30 each for them they are 600 watt dvc and are nice at 2 ohm //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Id do 12 of them for $420 or 16 for $560 verses the 2 18s for about the same size... Make a huge box. All the kids in my town loved my 4 I sold them with out box for $250

Are they 600 rms? I noticed that link says 600 but another one says 600 max 300 rms. if 8 could take 4k watts thatd pound.
