AE AV subs?

i had a tc2+ based one a few years ago. it was alot like the soundsplinter rlp which is tc9 based, but with like half the power handlng. i had mine is 2.2-2-.3cf tuned to 32hz with 600w and i was very happy with it

The new ones are made from the ground up by John Janowitz, owner of AE. He machines the parts, adds the copper sleeves and everything else in house. They are 100% custom and not based on any other companies design ie. not TC2+ based at all.

If I were to replace my Mag it would be with one of his subs.

John's awesome, I always feel like I'm bothering him way too much. I have an AV15-X, so unfortunately, I won't be able to give you a very subjective review. The H will work in a bit smaller enclosures, and has a bit more motor than the X, I beleive.

My only gripe is, what the hell are the differences between the 4 different models? The only difference I see is in the M that is more of a midbass/range speaker, but other than that I'm confused.

The only difference between the X and the H is the coil. One is an aluminum, one is a copper coil, I forget which is which. It's all listed on the site though.

Taken directly from the AE website:

In taking another page from the TD series, the AV woofers also now come in both the AV-X and AV-H options. The AV-X features a lighter 4layer flatwire aluminum VC for larger enclosures, everyday car audio use, etc. The AV-H feature a 4 layer flat copper coil for even higher motor strenght and for use in small enclosures and automotive SPL applications when you really need extra output.

If anybody would like an update on the AV subs, you can look here:

Sub-par materials, sub-par QC, 2-3 month warranty turnaround, and an owner who walked away from CAF because we've ALL exposed the problems with the drivers. Even Weekz who called me an idiot and praised the driver and said nothing was wrong with it now admits it had issues, and even admits (in that thread in a quote in one of my posts) that it lacked upper frequency extension.

AE = thumbs down

Pages 21 and 22 are of important note. Bassfreak argued about it's extension and quality for months, and now that he has it in his hands and has listened for a couple days, he is pretty pissed. Bassfreak pretty much knows his stuff, too, so this isn't some rookie.

You guys shouldn't be surprised. This industry is a joke.

When I was doing AudioJunkies, I used to ask John for information about his products so we could send him some traffic, and he'd be so excited to do so....and then I wouldn't hear from him for weeks.

I learned a while ago that you must be incredibly resilient if you want to trust anyone in the audio business, because they all end up doing something stupid in the end, either because they were never that good, or because they have no business sense.

I noticed that sandt38 mentioned JL Audio, and this is exactly why I defend that company. Say what you want about their prices, but at least they're not a ****ing joke of a business like most of our online companions.

Actually, maybe my number one complaint about John is that he continues to proclaim such incredible capabilities of his drivers but, as far as I have seen, there has not been a single iota of solid data to support these claims. This is not to say that I'm disputing the behaviour of shorting rings (since that is effectively the crux of John's argument), but that I'm disputing the extent to which John has claimed they improve his drivers over others on the market.
