there this guy named PETE KUKICKI- http://www.pwkdesigns.com/index.html

pete designed a box for me once, he probably will be your best bet.this guy knows his shit.

if boston acoustics recommendations is 1.5 for ported for that sub i woudn't go to much bigger.

people tell you what worked for them in a SPL loudness, but if you want more of SQL which you can get out of those subs , i would call boston up just make sure that you wnt burn out the voice coil or burn any tinsel leads with to much air.

company has a recommented box size for a reason, you just cant say that you want to put a 12 into a 2,3,4,or 5 ported cubit box without really knowing the specs on your subs or speakers..

I had A Re SE that i burnt out tinsel leads on it, I listen to what other had did with there SE, & it didint work for me.

so be carefull, unless if you have to blow on subs.

if your'e going to do ports you could look into these????

Probably easier to tune your box to.

these ports are 4inches round, so make sure the port is 4inches from the wood or sides.

& at least 4 inces from the back for air flow.

this is basic, ok

If you dont deaeden your trunk no matter how great your box is, you will still get that tin can sound, it comes from your trunk not your box.

builting a better box, with double up the wood or bracing it , or even fiberglassing the wood will help deaden the box not the trunk.

what do you mean the by over heating??

you amp or speakers???

you need to call cerwin vega about your amp if it keeps over heatin then maybe you have a bad amp & they will take carre of you, CV has great customer service.

Some companies will replace or fix the amp within there 1 or 2 warranty.

dont lety the shop talk you into buying a new amp.

just rap. in a cavalier they did a 140.3 in that box off of an overrated power acoustik amp. then i switched to sub up port back with a flared port and it was even louder but it was still 4 cubes at 33hz
does sub up port back really works? i always wondered if i should do that, but i asked another box builder, and he said it'd be better for the subs and ports to point forward, but considering that you actually HAVE HAD my subs and done the sub up port back. i think i'll just consider your design.

SWEET. thanks i saw some of his boxes. they look very nice. i just emailed him and asked him for a box ;]

yeah, im afraid i might burn out a coil since its only single, and i have no idea what im running under there or if i get a new box. when im free, per say friday, i'll take pictures of the set up so you can get a better picture of what im running and stuff :] i'm sure it'd be alot easier.

the AMP is overheating not the speakers, but the speakers i hear distortion when the amp has over 1/2 gain and starts to get warm and then overheat. :[

If you're going for all out SQ then go with a dual chamber sealed box. But you have to make sure you have plenty of power as sealed is not as efficient as ported. But at least then you won't have to worry about what to tune it to and whether or not you have room in your trunk. A good sealed enclosure kills most ported enclosures in SQ. IMHO that is.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

in the right ported box those bostons can sound good, put the port on the sameside as the sub or you can port it on the side as well.

i know you dont want to call cerwin vega, but they can help you with this over heating problem.

they have warranties, even if you bought that amp from someone else they will help you out.

in a trunk you can go two ways,

1) sub facing the trunk

2) you can built a baffle board & mount the subs on it , then use the trunk as the encloser.

awesome. and what exactly should i be asking them for help on? just question them about why my amp keeps overheating when its bridged and supposedly supposed to be pushing more

i wouldn't question them.

I would tell them that you have one of their amps (400.4), & that it's starting to over heat when you turn your gains up past the 1/2 mark.

let them know that you have the amp bridged, & tell them what comps you had installed.

They might warranty for you, by giving you another one since they dont make that amp any more or they replace some parts to stop the over heating.

did you check your grounds.

the shop isn't going to try find the best ground for your set up.

if you reground your amps to the same ground it will help, since both of you amps are next to each other.

make sure you sand or scrap the paint off of what ever you decide to make your new ground, that's if you reground your gear

well. THIS IS WHAT THE FCUKERS SAID.

"what's wrong with your amp?"

me-"the amp is continuously overheated at high gain so i have to tune it down but then it doesn't even sound loud any more and all i hear is hissing coming out of the tweeters"

"it's supposed to sound like that. if your gain is that high, you are going to hear hissing"

me-"but why does it keep overheating"

"because your gain is high."

me-"well can u see if you guys can fix it or check out any thing that is wrong with it?"

"what is wrong with your amp?"

me-"i just said, it always hot and overheating, isn't that bad"

"no"

me-"well on top of that, it also cuts off at high gain"

"ok we'll see and check out the amp"

10 minutes later

me-"so whats up?"

"we tuned the amp. so just don't touch the amp anymore"

me-"so its done? everythings good?"

"yeah. just don't touch the amp, and if it cuts off again, just bring it back in"

AND THATS HOW IT WENT.

i check my car. THE AMP IS hot as ****KK i can't keep my hand on it. it gets pretty hot. and ALL I HEAR IS HISSING.

wtfffffff

WTFFFFFFFFFF this is the BIGGEST BULLLLSHIETZ!!
