Build Session 2: The Construction

It does a number of things. It seals the MDF (which is porus), it adds mass (which lowers the Fs), and it stiffens the MDF slightly. It also makes for a smoother surface.

Resining offers no benefit to the ear, only tenths on the mic. Sometimes it doesnt even add to the mic. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

HDF is hard to come by. It is still porous as well. If you are building an acoustically dead enclosure HDF or BB would be optimal. I'm not building an acoustically dead box (yet).

Here are my steps of testing.

I'm starting out with a one layre, un-braced box resined and rounded corners. Then I will get a base line SPL run. Next I will screw on another front baffle, if that increases SPL I will double the back. If that increases SPL then I will add All Thread bracing front to back. If that increases SPL I will double the top and bottom and do top to bottom and side to side braces.

Then I will start messing with tuning then removeing bracing to see if it changes anything. Once I have everything down pat and throwing up good numbers I will pretty it up some.

It's a start.

i've found resin to raise the FS slightly....go figure.

i like the resin method, but i do it differently.... i make a large batch, pour it in the box, then roll the box around //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif i only do 2 sides at once to avoid dripping.
