breaking in sub

im a newb and just wondering when they say u have to break in ur sub how do u go about doin yours? do you just put it in the box, and dont turn the vol up for a few days/weeks, or could i like hook it up to my home system amp and leave it free-aired for a few days straight or something? whats the easiest way to go about this? i want to do it right n not mess up my sub thanks guys

Break in = overrated.

Drop it in the box and play it. It'll "break in" on it's own over time w/ regular use.

I've yet to see a test that showed that "break in" time made a substantial (or any) difference. Yes, sub's parameters change some over time with use.....but they are going to change regardless of whether or not the sub was being played like normal during that time, or whether it was just being "broke in" during that time.

I'd break it in for about 5 minutes, just to make sure you have everything wired correctly and the gains set correctly, sub-sonic filters, crossovers etc. Then if it sounds normal and everything is in place turn it up. But the 2 week deal of playing it at 25% volume is ghey.

squeak hit it dead on, break ins are overrated, just play it at a low volume at first, see if everything is alright and let it rip, I played my current setup at full volume since day one and never had any problems
