I currently have 2 10" JL Audio W6v3 in a 2ft3 box tuned to 30 hertz off a JL Audio HD 1200/1. Both subs and port are facing the trunk. I feel like either my box is too small and I am getting port noise when I turn it up. I need suggestions on a ported box for these 10s. Also I am wanting to try something different by having my subs face my trunk but the port fire through the center ski pass of the back seats. Would this still be a ported box or more of a bandpass design? I have attached picture of how it is currently and also the ski pass is picture is included.

Anyone? Considering selling them and going a single 12 w7
12W7 will really want more box volume than you've got now and it may or may not outperform your current 10s. As near as I can make out from the pictures you have 2 problems. First those ports are not an optimum shape (a circle), the narrower you get the less efficient and predictable they become. Second how is the sound meant to get up into the passenger area if the box form fits into the trunk like that and fires to the rear?

I've had pretty good luck with sub(s) up and port to the side in trunks. With the caveat that while subs can be crowded close to a hard surface ports want a bit of open space around them to function properly and you really do want to consider plenty of room for the sound wave to get around the box and up front. Firing port and subs forward may work as well but in either case you almost always get some bad standing waves (cancelation of some frequencies) if you don't have the box as far to the rear of the trunk as possible.

Ugly box I made from leftover wood to do SPL testing in my old Jeep but this orientation is good for a trunk and about the size you'd need for a single 12 done properly.

What about a 4th order for the 10s? The w6v3 dont require that much space ported and sealed. Could someone tell me what ratio to have like 1:1 or 2:1 and how much to go sealed and ported and what to have it tuned to?

I'd grab a design from someone who does designing, you asked for help in multiple threads before iirc.
After discussion with a legit designer he will understand your space/vehicle limitations and come up with something I'd think. A 4th ain't too hard to design imo and that ski-pass makes it your best bet I'd think, just be ready to utilize ALL your trunk space. That's if it'll fit thru the trunk opening to begin with, otherwise you'll be building it in the vehicle.
This is a pretty small 4th for 2 10's that went in a Lexus and did great

The design allowed for the opening at the trunk... NOT what would fit inside... keep that in mind unless you want to build it in the vehicle.

You'd need to plug the specs of those woofers into some box modeling software for that or pay someone to do so for you. I do not like 4th order bandpass in general but for through a ski hole/rear deck type application it is often your best bet to get any output out of a trunk.

r u sure its port noise, and not somethin else rattling etc?

how did you set the amp gain? and crossover and subsonic filters?

My rear deck rattles but I can hear the metal on metal rattle. My ports are too small I'm sure. Car audio shop set the gain which is about 1/4 and they set the filer freq to 80 and the infrasonic is set to 30

W6-10's?.. Tbh... I dont see a lack of port in your install, maybe a lower ratio but it looks to me like your entire enclosure with all the trimmings traps your bass in that trunk. I'd def remove your rear speakers (if you haven't already) or figure out how to configure it to get it into the cabin. A 4th might do the trick if those JL's are comptible for reals. Rear firing ported all trimmed in pretty might look good but limit what you feel/hear.

Yeah all my bass is traped so I'm wanting to do a 4th order so I can gain everything into the cabin of my car. I talked to a jl audio guy once face and this is what he said to do. Can anyone confirm below if its right for a good daily musical setup but mostly for rap music.

1.1 net sealed, 1 net ported with 30 square inches of port area. Port length of 17.875 inches. The bandpass is tuned to 60 Hz with a range from 35 Hz to 100 Hz. Ported will extend lower in frequency, but you would need to wall off or trim around the face.
