Birch Wood questions

some home depots have a cabnet grade plywood that is just the same as birch, i use it to build every box for customers and such... its only 24 bucks i even use it on my own boxes.. and this type of wood doesn't hurt our scores any... although onetime we forgot to vaccuum all the saw dust out one time... smelled like a forest fire in that car LMAO!!!!

I was talking to Dave the box guy (spltuscon on here) and he told me the wood he's had the best luck with is Arauco Plywood ( Shop 23/32" 4X8 ARAUCO PLYWOOD ACX at Lowes.com ). Costs $7 more than MDF, about 20 lbs lighter and stronger. The plywood is advertised as 23/32, so even if it's slightly smaller it will still be around 3/4".
This is what mine is.. Im very happy with it. And the weight is great for my small car.

How are the Acoustics/sound within the lows verses each other??Id figure the burch would echo,as the MDF would absorb the ecohing sound??Looking to build for 4-xtra heavy 10s in a x-cab Chevy..Was to be using 1in Mdf as always, but you guys have me considering??Does it sound a bit more heavy/or ??Think I used reg Plywood back in the day when I was broke, yet dont remember the reason for the change.Any other input may change my new install.I dont mind the weight, just the Acoustics??Thanks:wallbash:

The biggest difference in a daily system is all in the workability. The difference in sound is negligible in an unprepared cabin. To truly hear a difference you need to put each in a sound booth side by side. With out doing that or similar you will never hear the slight resonance. That only goes for normal people though, audiophiles and sq guys will probably be able to pick up the difference just because of the added experience they have had with listening for those type's of things. I have said it tons of times before but, If you want to hate your car stereo go listen to some properly prepared HT equipment.
