Best deals on HD TV's ?

yep and that same sh!tty factory is pumping out the high dollar brands as well. I bet if you actually had enough common sense to research before you post stupid shit you would see that most of the lower priced stuff is made by the same people that are making the higher priced stuff. the lower priced stuff is where the most money is made. more people are willing to spend $4-500 on a tv than are willing to spend $1000 or more.
Wrong you fail. You obviously are not in the industry and have working knowledge of the myriad of sh!tty factories in China. Some of the second hand brands have name brand components inside, but they are made in a third party factory.

For instance. I have sold many thousands of Vizios in my days. One unit in particular was made with about 50% LG parts and a Panasonic panel. The remaining parts were 3rd party parts and all of that was assembled at the factory that Vizio contracted with for that unit.

The same sh!t is going on with these other no name brands. They are simply marketing companies that have some cheesy factory give them 3 units to choose from and then they simply add the brand name to the front and toss it in a custom box.

This does not only apply to TVs, it is also PC parts and just about any electronics parts you can think of. I remember when our Chinese factory we deal with wanted us to import the fake iPods a few years ago. They were 100% fake, but you would never know. They would have cost us $12 per unit. They also make TVs and might be the source that BB et al use.

I got a 42 inch Phillips for about 1200 for my PS3 at HH Gregg. Plan on buying another tv in a year a two with a better color ratio though. I seen a 47 inch samsung with a one million to one ratio and f*ck it was like looking at ***** woman. The color was so much richer, but that 2400 price tag is crazy. But try best buy, Cc, or even the Internet. There are deals everywhere, just barley on really good quality televsions.

BB isn't in the TV building business. It may be their store brand but they don't "make" it. It is from some buildhouse that I am sure many brands you use are from. For the price they are great basic sets for bedrooms, or other rooms where all the bells and whistles aren't needed.
no i used to work at best buy.... anything dynex is made by best buy

What you mean to say is that Dynex is a BB owned brand. Dynex does not make anything. It is just a brand name like Westinghouse, Vizio, etc...
This is what I believe. Although I believe Vizio is a consortium brand, rather than a store brand. Ie, I think Vizio selects from a catalog of parts, has someone throw them together, and put it on the shelf.

Yes, that is what I meant. Vizio is just a marketing company and not a real manufacturer.

But IMO that doesn't mean they cannot provide a good value. They are not positioned to be R&D leaders, they are positioned to provide decent features and lower price points.

What I am most curious about is why Best Buy does both Dynex and Insignia.

Well I'm going to buy the Dynex with the 4 year warrenty from Best Buy. Since its a major retailer and I'm getting the extended warrenty if something happens I simply return it for a brand new one. If it happens to die in 3-4 years after that model has been discontinued I still get ~$600 worth of credit for a new TV.

I can see being wary of purchasing an off brand off the internet as you can be pulled and jerked around. Theres not much BestBuy can do with a faulty television other than go bankrupt. *knocks on wood*

I agree with the Vizio comment. I actually own one. Have sold thousands of them as well. They had one model, the P42ED that had a critical design flaw. Other than that, every other model seems to have held up way beyond expectations. OH and FTR the flawed part in the P42ED was an LG part.

As for why BB does more than one brand, simple. It costs them very little to have more than one brand. If one brand has a major flaw, they drop it and use the other name. I see Insignia being fased out for the Dynex name soon. Then they will intorduce a new brand after that time. I hear it will be called Vaginis.

Just be very careful about BB warranties. They have been known to be difficult to win a claim against. You are much better off buying a warranty through Square Trade. The prices are much lower and are well known to be the fastest at filling claims.

I'll give you $100 if you can tell me where the Best Buy TV factory is.
Best Buy owns some of the brands it sells. Best Buy currently has five private labels which include Insignia, Dynex, Init, Geek Squad, and Rocketfish. Insignia focuses on electronic equipment, including televisions, monitors, car stereos, home theater systems, and portable video and audio players.[24] VPR Matrix (discontinued) focused on personal computers and accessories including desktops, notebooks and computer monitors. Dynex focuses on a wide variety of economically priced computer and entertainment accessories such as storage media, data and power cables, webcams, and office supplies, with recent forays into electronics such as high definition LCD televisions. Init focuses on storage products such as media storage, equipment bags, totes and furniture for home theaters. The Geek Squad brand can be found on the company's high end computer accessories and cables. Rocketfish focuses on high end cables primarily used with home theater installation and setup as well as on computer accessories. Rocketfish is promoted as a brand that focuses on consumer input to develop its products.
From wikipedia.... best buy owns dynex, so i guess maybe they don't make their own products?? Not sure but either way it's basically made/owned by best buy and is a shit brand

Ok. I just bought a TV. I'm very happy with it.

I signed up on AVS forum and learned a little bit on what to look for (flashlighting, blue-blacks, etc)

Here is the TV I went with:

42" 1080P: $798

Google doesn't crawl sam's club, so you have to go to the website. Elseware it sells for over $1000 before tax and/or shipping.

Before I found that one, I was going to get the Panasonic TH-42PZ80U, for $800 shipped from NewEgg, but they ran out of stock. Highly rated on AVS and available on 6th Ave for like $850 shipped.

It's a better TV than the Phillips that I got, for about the same price (the $798 was before tax), but I read TERRIBLE things about 6th ave warranty for big TV's and was like - hmm. Wal-Mart service, or sketch-ball service? I went with the Phillips.

The other TV I was looking at was the Samsung 46. I don't remember the model number. It was just 400 over my budget, which was too much.

From AVS - "Samsung has best LCDs." "Panasonic has best Plasmas."

I HIGHLY recommend the Phillips. Great picture.

When you are looking for a TV, look a little deeper into the stats that resolution and contrast. Look at what technologies in the TV. Anti-blur, anti-judder, volume-monitoring (for commercials), etc.

I think those things are JUST AS important as the main stats.

PM me if you want me to help you out. Not that I'm some buff, but I did look the stuff up.

Well, whats the biggest, best TV I can get for ~$600-700, no more at all. I want to get the 42" Dynex 1080p, the only thing I see is the very low contrast ratio of 2000:1, when others have 100,000:1
