American bass vfl 200.1 keeps going into protect......

It does get warm I noticed, and when I was adjusting the gain after I would turn it past half I could hear a slight buzzing noise until I turned it down below half

But if I turn it down below half they're really quiet like I'm running a single 10"

I hope not, the guy I got it from ran two of them strapped at 1 ohm in his comp car

Well an amp shouldn't keep going into protect, and a amp shouldnt go from a lot of output to sounding like a single 10" woofer by just turning the gain a hair below half.

Right....I was actually wrong about it being really quiet, right now ive got it turned down a hair below half, bass boost at 0, and my lpf a hair below half and I was able to play it full tilt the whole way home which was a 20 minute drive and it cut off one time for a couple seconds and then started playing again just fine the rest of the way, I'm assuming the amp is just extremely touchy at .5 ohm compared to 1 ohm, am I correct about that? My lights also dim quite a bit on my dash still, and the settings on my head unit are....sub level is +1, srev(pioneer) is 1 out of 2, and hpf is 125hz

Yes I know, but I was just letting you know what I had everything set at on my head unit just incase it would make a difference, and so you wouldn't have to ask me what everything was set at. Massive spl I did redo my ground about a week ago....I had it on the bolt for the back seat and then I bumped up to 4/0 for my ground and realized how dumb I was for putting my ground there so I relocated it to bare metal under the carpet, I sanded all the paint off to if your wondering lol....I used tinned copper ring terminals also.....I messed with the amp some more and I turned the gain to just right above a quarter but below half and turned the bass on my head unit to +5 and the amp went into protect. Then I tried it with the bass at +3 on my head unit and the amp did fine, but for 3800 watts it definitely seems like my hdc3's should be a hell of a lot louder than what they are. It should be somewhat hard to breathe with pretty much 2000 going to each one. Am I right? Especially since my cabin is somewhat small.....I drive a chrysler pacifica

its hard to say without hearing it and seeing it. we have no idea if you have the electrical properly hooked up etc..
Would it help if I took pictures of everything? Cause I can definitely do that for you lol

My phone is messed up and my pictures are corrupted so that's a no go until I get my sd card in the mail. But my voltage is at 14.1 at idle. The amperage is at 85, I played it for about 20 minutes and the amp did get pretty warm, but it didn't shut off until after about 30 minutes at full tilt.

Ok I'm not sure if this makes any difference at all but my alternator is bolted in using the top and bottom bolts in the front, the third hole on the "arm" that sticks out on the side that mounts to the engine block is to short to mount directly to it like it's supposed to, so there's about an inch gap from the third mounting hole to the block, so I didn't hook up the ground that's supposed to go from the alternator to the negative on the battery for the big 3, and I don't have the 4/0 positive wire from the alternator to the battery fused, will either of those affect how the alternator and/or the amp performs? It's such a ridiculously tight fit I can't get the third bolt in and plus the gap I can't get it to move any closer to the block
