Alpine Type Rs Vs. Sundowns

I would say get the right tool for the job, Sundown from what i have reaserched seem like a pretty solid speaker, but in general they seem to be built more towards the SPL side, could you make a sealed box and get it to sound good?? Sure you could. And i could also drive a nail into a 2x4 with a 20lb sledge hammer but i would rather just use a regular hammer.

Why the hell does everyone say Sundown subs are geared towards SPL and are not musical??

If anything, it's the opposite. Lots of low end extension and sound quality.

Do you see many people compete with Sundown Team subs? No. They're great for ground pounders though.

Idk it's got my brain going for a loop too... The majority of spl woofers have a higher hz... A sub that has 25.7hz freq... Is not a spl woofer.... It takes a lot of power to get high DB on the lows....

Different purposes. Also, you're just talking about resonant frequency bud

I have heard this. But from my ear, I can tell that 15s have more low end bass than my 10s, and my 10s have way more range than the 15s. But, in defense of the 15s, my 10s are much higher quality speakers. The 15s are hifonics brutus in a ported box powered by a Rockford Fosgate Punch. To me, they sound like poop. Nowhere near the clarity I look for.
Poorly designed box. You cant make assumptions due to junk subs in piece of sh*t box.

My 18s play metal better than any 10 or 12 setup in my city. Its due to a proper custom enclosure design. You speak from a point where you have never head a proper ported setup done by someone who knows what they are doing.

A ported box can be designed for maximum spl output, or maximal sound quality, some where in between OR a complete fail like most of the prefabricated boxes on the market. There's a science behind it, its not as simple as buying something from ebay and throwing it in. The box is what makes or breaks the system. Not the subwoofer size.

Each subwoofer has its electro-mechanical parameters you use to design an enclosure around with a proper enclosure design software.

paper cones dont have the greatest sound reproduction for SQ and there cones are paper.
That is an awful reason.

Plenty of SQ subs with paper cones.

I guess since my subs have composite cones, they're for sound quality, not SPL?

You know what, not all SQ subs have Aluminum cones either. Aluminum cones are heavy.

Noloud4U this guy is doubting the sq of your advanced dd paper cones

He's got a composite cap tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

FU audio 12 can go toe to toe anyday. Made in the USA, beefier parts, hits lows better and gets loud and sounds good even with low power and handles a lot of power. Its close to 35lbs in weight, thats a lot of motor. $165 shipped
FU Car Audio, fu audio, fu car audio.

I've owned a type R, it was the most mediocre performing sub out of all my subs. It wasnt bad, but it wasn't amazing either. It did sound decent and was enclosure friendly.
Wow guys should be jumping all over these. They are priced to move to get there name out . Once they get reconized they will up the prices

I have no problems with my electrical system its not installed to try and keep lights from dimming, its to keep a consistant voltage that a vehicles electrical system doesnt always provide especially with a stock alternator and voltage regulator, and its a ford. show me the sq trophies from your sundowns, where are they one the internet??

both given perfect installs, it'll go down to woofer quality and build. There will be one point where one sub will pull ahead.
True. However, the xv.2 has more power handling than the 1st version and from what I read they are more biased towards a "natural" sounding sub.

I wouldn't bet $$ against either.
