A question for papermaker

When I was non union I made more hourly for one company but I had to deduct my health insurance and retirement out of my salary so in the end I made less after taxes and deductions. Another problem with that company is they would always try to get out of paying over time i can't tell you how many 60 hour weeks I worked to receive 50 hours straight time and 10 hours overtime, you pretty much just had to take it or you were out of a job. Being part of the union guarantee s thier going to pay my over time at the rate we agreed upon. And like I said when work go slow it was always go on unemployment and we'll call you when a job comes up being part of the union the second a company doesn't have anymore work for me I put my name on the list and usually with in a day or 2 I'm back out with another company till they slow down, but mostly I have been with the same company for 5 years now unless thier only jobs are out of state I leave that work for the younger guys that don't mind living out of a hotel for 6-9 months.

I don't wanna sound like I'm putting down non union employees some of the best operators I have worked with were non union, but also when I was non union alot or the people running the equipment were family, friends or just senior in the company and could move dirt but not in a safe efficient way. That's how I started running equipment the person that came in was drunk and I started running a skid steer worked my way up to loader then dozer and excavator just going to out yard and learning each piece on my own time till the boss was confident in my ability to run it on a job for him.

You can't compare Drive motivation skill and intelligence between union and non-union workers I understand what you saying but I've seen a lot of Union hands not flat out don't know s*** and get carried along and vice versa I'm pretty much carry every f****** body I've ever worked with there's only a few people that can say hey look shut up and let me show you some s***. Just how the boat floats.

I really don't care much I'm there to do a job do a good job and pay my bills I'm try to be a decent person but other than that *** everything else.

Not automatically put in my retirement 12% of my check and a company matches that so that's all deductible when it comes to filing taxes and then it's not even taxed in the first place.

But let's face it we all f****** slaves bro

That's the way to do it...have someone work for you. I need to own a franchise....but that's really deep pockets, like 500k or so, around here.

Drunk on the job, still has a job tomorrow, nice. Another issue with unions...
That experience was with a non union company and a non union employee that was a friend of the owner that was just a piece of **** but still had a job because they were friends. Heavy equipment union does random drug tests every day I couldn't even tell you how many I took this year probly like 13-18 but we have a randomized computer system that just picks names and if your name comes up you pee if you fail or decline your out.

That's favortism...one of the major issues for a company I work for that got overhauled because of a new manager that the CEO hired. That's also a safety issue because if he severly hurts himself on the job while drunk, and gets drug/alcohol tested at the hospital, get ready for lawsuits. Guess their too blind to see that. Friends or not, shouldn't matter. I would give the guy a chance to sober up or gtfo.

I don't know what ever happened to him but I know at the time I left the owner was pretty much done with him shame because the owner and other employees were great.

I've been quite a few places where people taking credit for my work I just leave to go somewhere else and get more money.

A lot of places are like that around here they get buddy buddy they don't know s*** and they get all the credit

What was the job?
It was a small family run company that did in ground pool instillation , land scaping , and fencing. Small company's like that it doesn't make sense to have union employees. We're union helps out is large company's that need slot of skilled employees not smaller company's that have 50 employees or less.
