Your work doesnt have to be perfect to charge people for it? If your charing 1/2 what a pro costs why cant it be less then perfect as a pro would make it.. if the person buying it has not a clue how to a build a box and wants to save $ I dont see why its not a good option... I build boxes for people and they don't look perfect but they sound damm good and there happy with them and they save alot of money..It really upsets me that most the members on this forum have to rip apart any build that isn't perfect, and no I'm not talking about specfically this thread or any members but in general on this forum.
matter of opinion. nothing wrong feeling as you do, that's cool. me? no way could i do anything less then my absolute best, no matter what i charge.

case in point, i just built a set of mtm's for a friend/customer. i thought my freehand routing skills were good enough to make the recess for the flush mounting of the speakers. when they weren't perfect, i pm'd the buyer with two options. one, i would buy the tools necessary and redo the baffles or two, if he like the cabinets as they sat, i'd refund as much money as was necessary to compensate for the sub par work. end result? i bought the tools, redid the baffles and the man is happier then all hell. as am i.

if yoru customer is happy with less then perfect, cool. if you are happy with less then perfect, cool. but some are not.

in this particular case, it's jsut as much about the person as it is his build. as long as your opinion matches his and what he has read, it's all good. but it doesn't matter how many cabinets one has built, or how much experience one has, his knowledge trumps all. you try and throw him some tips, you ask a few questions, and now your questioning his questionable manhood. and let's not get started on his spelling, his honors taking, college level courses spelling.

again, back to your post. if both parties agree with that, and the builder can live with that, more power to ya. personally, i have too much self pride, sinful as it may be, to do anything halfass.

For the record: A good enclosure doesn't have to have rounded edges or perfectly cut circles. My oh my, how have I ever survived without a precisely perfect subwoofer enclosure??

Oh, mine have still always sounded good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I am curious as to why it takes longer to countersink than to pre-drill? Seems to me the countersink bit allows you to set the exact depth for pre-drilling and therefore by countersinking you save time....unless you didn't pre-drill.

x2

perfect circles make teh box teh loudz.

I'm still laughing at the screw comments. I've yet to take a picture of the inside of the box. Perhaps I should so that people will STFU.

Predrill, then countersink. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I have counterink bits (predrill and countersink at the same time) but they only cut about 1/8th of an inch. I use them when I'm not rounding over. But since I was doign bracing on the inside the way I am and I wanted to try my new router I'm constructing the box the way I am. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If I had a countersink bit that would sink the screw head deep enough that my 1/2" roundover wouldnt risk being damaged I wouldnt have bothered removeing the screws. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Because I dont I would have to change bits, drill, then change bits agian. The time it would take to do the extra sinking is about that that it takes to remove a screw. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I've seen carbide shaper blades run through alumimum miter gagues like it was butter, and if you do your screws right, the router bit won't touch them...

Obviously you aren't vary fast wiht the drill either cause countersinking and drilling dosen't take much time.

you are correct. they don't have to be perfect. i mentioned them because cbfryfag has excuses for everything. the circles were whacked, not because of chris, but because of his jigsaw. the edges had a lip because of the router, not the depth set by chris. he does no wrong, it's his equipment or something else. that is the only reason why they were mentioned, well, and to just plain make fun of the little shewoman.

let me ask you this, do you remove all the screws? or do you leave them in and ue them as a mechanical bond to help the glue?

and fryfag, go to lowes, go to the drill bit section. guess what asshat? they have just what you need. (no, not a lobotomy) the name brand is hitachi, it's a drillbit/ countersink combo. it incorporates the drill bit/ countersink AND screwdriver bit into one tool. it has 3 sizes for different screws, adjustable depth for the bit, and all you do is drill/countersink (happens at the same time there lil buddy), flip the bit and shoot a screw. even someone with your vast intelligence can figure out how to use it and how you won't be changing a **** thing.

wait, since you'll have to physically pull the lock back, flip the bit and push the lock forward again, that might be a waste of time. and it's better to risk the integrity of something someone else is paying for then to take a few moments out of your precious time to do it right.

one other thing, push a bit harder on your countersink bits, they'll sink themselves into the wood. it's not like mdf is aptong. probably misspelled aptong, but i doubt you even know what it is, so.....

and post pictures of the inside, give me something else to make fun of you with. i won't STFU, and i won't go away. your a true blue idiot and i have nothing better to do online then to harass you little boy.

jim, thanks for the warm welcome bro.
