6th order or typical ported more spl?

I dunno what it would do with a non aluminum sub on the market today, but back in the day none of the Kevlar coned subs could do much in this box. It had to be aluminum to resonate correctly.

This box was something I whipped up in 1999 - 2000 because I could not get the GS Designs GSD12 to hit well in ported or sealed. I sat down with a sheet of wood and made the box to where I could move and tune the walls until I liked it and this is what came out of it.

23 inch long port, 14 inches high. The combination of front and rear wave was so detuned from each other it hit with full force across the spectrum. It is still my favorite box to this day. Ya gotta forgive the condition of the box, it's been through 6 yrs of hell and I've still not blown the sub. That's one way I know I got the design right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i foyu have a chance check out my thread over on termpro its in the spl section and its titled camp bandpass i starte out with a box designed by toxic bass and went from there i am currently back to that box and with 2000 watts in a bonnville i pulled a 148.6db oh yeah my box is a 6th order series tuned (i think that is what we came to the conclusion of) anys lots of good reading

i would have posted a link but i cant get into the forum at the moment it says the it cant find the server i have that problem alot

1.5 sealed into 2.0 ported with 60 square tuned to 50hz......thinkin hard.

Or gonna try both L7s with 1.2 sealed each into 2.5 ported with 80 square tuned to 58 hz.

Dont know which yet. But the larger is gonna really be hard to fit and I mean really hard and might need to be made even smaller.

While it is true that you get a DB boost from ported/tuned enclosures, all you really have to do is tune for that one magic frequency you plan on going for to hit your number. You can do that a number of ways.
Personally I like a sealed small enclosure that can handle higher wattages. You can tune to hit your frequency, and use higher power behind the subs. You also stand a better chance of being able to use it as a street system since it is likely to play on more notes than a tuned port.

Since you are going to hit a higher note for DB drag, this works out good.

For someone running McIntosh you sure dont know much about SPL.

Ported enclosures will always greater mechanical powerhandleing above tuning unless the enlcosure is too large for the driver.
