6.5s ported or 8s sealed?

After a good stint of no bass I'm ready to put something back into my truck

Currently considering

2 dd1506 in 1cube ported at 35-36hz

Or
2 sundown sd4 8s in 1.05 sealed

While there is significant differences in cone area 66in² to 100in² I would be getting the boost from the ported box.

I don't have modeling software anymore so I'm only guessing game which one could reach lower in the bass range

I'm limited to an 8inch sub max due to mounting surface.

Will likely do sub forward port side.

Any advice?

I know sealed can dig deep, my last setup was a pair of 13tw5s and they dug into the 20s easily

I will eventually be doubling the speakers and building a 2nd box for the other side of the truck.

I am open to other setups as well but don't want to shoe horn 10s or 12s in. Would rather run smaller subs for something new

What truck?
It's a 2013 silverado 3500 crew cab
Can you do 1 10 ported?
I could but I don't want to, down firing I lose air space and upfiring is muffled.

Front firing I can only squeeze an 8 at max. Don't want to wait on a seat lift or rebuild my current box if I can help it.

mainly I've just been away from the brands for a while.

I've got 1000w conservative available but would like to run around 5-600w at 2ohm for the first pair and the drop to 1ohm for the second pair..

amp is a dd d5.1000, will likely be swapped for a d5.1500 at a later date for more headroom. Maybe a sundown if he ever releases the higher power compact 5 channels

Sundown is coming out with the new Nightshade Subwoofers and they will be released in the 8" version as well.
While I can fit an 8inch of decent size I don't think a night shade neo motor on the back of sundowns deep basket will fit. I think I can get about 10inch total but the downward slope of the box limits motor diameter.

And I don't think I'll have the power for that sub, not to mention it will likely be a peaky sub even beyond ddaudio peak due to super stiff suspension

Well, I'm an AB fan. So, I just bought four of these for my standard cab Dodge. 600 rms, mounting depth of 5.4", and 120 oz. Magnets. The original VFL8's (yellow ones) sound really good as well.

I wouldn't be able to run 4 of those 8s ported they need a .75cube each and I can only give them .5cube.

My box fell out awkward. 3 6.5 fit perfect but I cant stand dealing with ohm loads and multiples of 3.

1 8 has too much airspace and 2 not enough.

Even with the 28s sealed the box is a touch large but not by much, same with 2 6.5ported just a touch big but not by much

So, go with two 8's sealed and shrink the box slightly. Or, maybe one of these will work. Mounting depth is only 6".

I don't believe next to any American bass subs perform well sealed. They typically use stiff suspension and rely on ported enclosures to perform to peak efficiency

Two 6.5s ported by a large margin. 8 sealed will give you in average 2bd less

Idk how you figure that.

2 dd1506 is 66in² of cone area with 10mm of xmax 132in² if you call the rear wave essentially a second set of woofers. This moves 52in³ of air combining the front and rear wave

2 sd4 8s is 100in² with 14.5mm of xmax, the moves 57in³ of air

Honestly I don't see moving 5in³ more in the case of the 8s to be truly impactful. Though it does show the advantage of using the rear wave in a ported enclosure.

1- XD1044 ported would work good in this situation, but whatever.

If I try and shoe horn a 10 in I lose .3ft³ resulting in a .66ft³ box. That's mighty small for a 10inch sub. And then I will lose mounting depth since I have to shrink my box 2inchs shorter to make clearancefor the sub to no hit the floor. I would only have 4inches of mounting depth maybe more since you have to leave room for pole vent. I cannot front face a 10inch sub. And I cannot use the middle 12inches of the rear underseat. I already have to mount all my amps and wiring behind the seats which is a pita

You better just get some 6-½'s and call it the day.

I think 6.5s ported would be my choice. I have a few very low powered tang bands that I bought for doing a few Bluetooth portable stereo projects, and these things are impressive. I have one in .3 cubes at 34 hz in my little shop stereo, and I’m thinking of doing a box for 4 of them in my Jeep just to see what theyre like before putting them in my Bluetooth projects. These little buggers dig down deeper than I thought a 6.5 could really.

Yea I'm still looking for a dealer that has the dd1506 instock. I don't have the time to wait on them to ship. I do know where a few sundown sa6.5 are but iirc they were the wrong ohm load. And the sa are significantly less sub that the dd1506.

Might be waiting a while to get new sub. I have to be in south Texas for work in 10days.
