6.5s ported or 8s sealed?

I don't believe next to any American bass subs perform well sealed. They typically use stiff suspension and rely on ported enclosures to perform to peak efficiency

Idk how you figure that.

2 dd1506 is 66in² of cone area with 10mm of xmax 132in² if you call the rear wave essentially a second set of woofers. This moves 52in³ of air combining the front and rear wave

2 sd4 8s is 100in² with 14.5mm of xmax, the moves 57in³ of air

Honestly I don't see moving 5in³ more in the case of the 8s to be truly impactful. Though it does show the advantage of using the rear wave in a ported enclosure.
1- XD1044 ported would work good in this situation, but whatever.

If I try and shoe horn a 10 in I lose .3ft³ resulting in a .66ft³ box. That's mighty small for a 10inch sub. And then I will lose mounting depth since I have to shrink my box 2inchs shorter to make clearancefor the sub to no hit the floor. I would only have 4inches of mounting depth maybe more since you have to leave room for pole vent. I cannot front face a 10inch sub. And I cannot use the middle 12inches of the rear underseat. I already have to mount all my amps and wiring behind the seats which is a pita

You better just get some 6-½'s and call it the day.

I think 6.5s ported would be my choice. I have a few very low powered tang bands that I bought for doing a few Bluetooth portable stereo projects, and these things are impressive. I have one in .3 cubes at 34 hz in my little shop stereo, and I’m thinking of doing a box for 4 of them in my Jeep just to see what theyre like before putting them in my Bluetooth projects. These little buggers dig down deeper than I thought a 6.5 could really.

Yea I'm still looking for a dealer that has the dd1506 instock. I don't have the time to wait on them to ship. I do know where a few sundown sa6.5 are but iirc they were the wrong ohm load. And the sa are significantly less sub that the dd1506.

Might be waiting a while to get new sub. I have to be in south Texas for work in 10days.

The ported DD 6.5s can be pretty impressive...I was running 4 in my Saleen Mustang on 1500rms and you couldn't hardly sit in the car . After I did demo's at a car stereo show with the whole car shaking during strong bass songs..I popped the truck to show off the setup and the expressions on peoples face were priceless ..one guy that sat in the car thought I was running a couple of 12s in the trunk ....he was really shocked ...to see 6.5s ...it makes me want to do something else with 6.5s again lol

Well the plan is to run 4 in the long run but I'd like to be able to find 2 in stock somewhere for now. I haven't finalized my box faceplate because I might not be able to find a pair. Box is still 1.1 at 36hz before sub displacement. So a beefy 8 or par of 6.5s would fit well.

The sd4 8s will have the advantage of being light but I'm using plywood instead of mdf so the box is already quite light.

They should perform similar ..id kinda think the pair of 6.5s would have a slight edge

These look pretty nasty, but might be too pricey.
DD1506, the box recommendation is .25-.75 ported.

They aren't pricey when you consider they are American made not made overseas.

A guy in Oklahoma will be building the sub, not China.

I like sundown and respect Jacob and his business policy, it mirrors ddaudio quite alot.

They both have low end options made overseas and they both have higher end options hand-built here in the usa.

But to my knowledge Jacob doesn't make any 6.5 sub in the usa. The x6.5 I believe is made overseas as well.

I wish we had more options for usa made amplifiers. I really miss lunar amps.

But in the end I was looking for the biggest 6.5 I could find regardless of point of origin

A pair of 6.5s over a single 8 should have the edge in cone area as well as less power compression. But my original quandary was a pair of 8s sealed vs a pair of 6.5s ported cone area slightly favors the 6.5s due to the rear wave adding to the front but it's a very miniscule difference. I mainly was leaning ported because I can adjust the port to dig deeper if needed. I'm not looking for hair tricks I just want to fill in the bottom end and a little more.

Friends don't let friends build sealed boxes, unless they're inside of ported boxes.

Yea I thought about doing 1 6.5 in a 4th order. I have the airspace but I don't think I have the room to fit the frames mounting diameter inside of the box.

But then I'm pretty sure I would need to down size from a 3inch aeroport to a 2inch.

.3 sealed .6 ported at 44hz should be nice in the 30-60hz range but I don't have modeling software anymore and dd doesn't list full specs online. Anyway. If I can't find a dd1506 today I may be switching to either Savard high q or sundown x6.5. Those are the only other ones I know of that are decent.

Let me know if you want to do a 4th or 6th order. A lot of times smaller woofers do better in 6th's because of the really high Fs, but it depends.
