5x7 comp front speaker decision tacoma (help a newbie)

Hello all,

I’ve been researching car audio for a little while but I would really appreciate some advice for the set up in my 2004 Tacoma. The fronts are 5x7 components. The rears are 5x7 w/o separate tweeters. I’m fairly sure I want to go with the four components listed below.

Any opinions on this set up are much appreciated too.

It’s the front component speakers that I’m not as sure about. So far I’ve found these to pick from. I think I prefer to keep them 5x7 rather than go with a plate or bracket for round speakers, except of course the SL80s since they are made that way.

I’m obviously not an Audio buff. I only know what I’ve learned recently doing my research. I listen to Rock, Metal, Reggae, Alternative, Folk, a little bit of Hip Hop and some other crap. I’m mostly concerned about sound quality.

Any advice on the set up above or the front speakers I listed would be a big help.

Also any speaker you might recommend that would be better than what I found please let me know.

Will the different components I’ve chosen work well together as far as enough wattage from the amp to cleanly power the speakers? Should I be concerned running speakers with and RMS of 75 watts with an amp that is also rated at 75 watts RMS. I keep hearing that the amp RMS wattage should be higher than the speakers.

If sound quality is a primary concern, then go with a 6.5" component in the front. Not only will you have a better starting point for sound quality, you will have a ton more options, for a lot less money.

can i really fit a 6.5 there? if it has a 5x7 now that would be 1.5" bigger.

Yes u can. I had a tacoma (02, same doors as an 04) and I had 6.5s in there.

buy my quarts, there 5.25 and i'll even make you adapters for them.

i'll probably have it all installed which is why i was trying to avoid paying them to fab a bracket or something. any reccomendations on 6.5s that would be great fit for the rest of the system i listed?

set of comps cheaper then the JL ones you shown. and yes you do have the option of fabricating a bracket for some 6.5s at most to fab some brackets dependin on the speaker you use should be around 25.00 you just have to make sure what ever 6.5 u use won't be to deep. and with the bracket won't be to far out.

can you recommend a 6.5 that would work well with the pdx-5?

by the way, i saw a 5x7 to 6.5 adapter for 10 bucks on e-bay made of 1/4 inch pvc.

that should work right?

first thing we need to do is figure out what the depth of the speaker can be. check different sites like crutchfield, scosche, metra...etc to find out how deep the speaker can be. that way you'll know how much depth you cna work with. there are a lot of speakers out there that will work with that amp. are you going coax or component? or does it matter?

i think critchfield site says the depth is 3 inch

besides the fronts, what's your opinion on the rest of the set i'm thinking about?

it's some good lines i stay away from touch screens myself. if your lookin for speakers that sound good with a little or alot of power i suggest the ID line. granted i'm biased as i run all ID but most ppl will tell you Id is a good line.
