$5000 QS System for 2007 Tahoe

Hello all. I am new to the forum, but not that new to car audio. I have gone through a variety of systems in my previous cars. However I have been out of the loop for the past 2yrs or so. Im now back in though, and Im looking to do an install in my 2007 Tahoe. When I was younger I just wanted massive bass with half decent sound. But for this install I want to design a system that is more balanced and better sounding. I am having some trouble picking some products however. So far I plan on using my Factor DVD Navigation system. I was planning on using the JL Audio Clean Sweep, two w6v2 12's in a sealed box, the slash 1000v1 or v2 amp, a JL component set and a 4 channel JL amp to run them. I have the old 200amp stinger alternator and battery from my old setup. I want my lows to be crisp and loud, but not "boomy" or "muffled". Does anybody have any experience with these products. My budget for the system is about $4500-$5000. Any advice is appreciated.

Doesn't sound like a bad start, although with that kind of budget, why not branch things out a little?

A 3-way set using Seas Excel midbasses, midranges and maybe Scanspeak tweets would be pretty impressive with proper installation, and with that kind of budget you can afford the $300+ worth of sound deadener that can go into it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

$5000? you could get WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better SQ equipment for that money. **** JL man

rainbow, zapco, moral, focal, audison, hertz, audio art, old school ppi.......my god with that budget JL would be a waste...

thats just my 2 cents

great choice on the Dub 6's!!!!!!!!! The best drivers JL makes! For the money, you can get the same quality of amps for half the money though. I HATE the JL component sets, far smoother sound comps out there. Great start though! At least you know it takes money to spend for QUALITY sound.

What he said.

I have a very open mind when it comes to this. I loved my old system and it was a hodgpodge of components. I had kicker subs and and amps. Image Dynamic Compression drivers and mids. Ive had good luck in the past with orion and soundstream amps as well. I do not have a problem going non JL components. However I have always wanted to try out the JL subs every since my friend had them in his jeep. I hear wonderful things about the Zapco amps, but arent they crazy expensive? Is the JL Clean Sweep worth it?

Also, I have always liked the tight, crisp sound from a sealed box. I once had 2 Kicker Solobaric 10s in a bandpass box that sounded like mud. But i see alot of people are using ported boxes now. dont those sound "boomy'?

ill say the w6v2's are amazing SQ subs........but you're going to get more quality for your money if you deviate from JL for the other aspects of the system

Do you have any recommendations for mids and highs? How about the zapco amps? Is there any online sites that show prices for them? MB Quart used to be a big name back in the day. how are they?

Zapco has a huge variety in their product line. I've heard a few of their I-Force amps that are cheaper than a lot of things on the market, but they have their Competition series that's up there...as far as the Clean Sweep, you might want to check out the RF 3Sixty.2, although I haven't done a side by side comparison of the units' capabilities...

Seas, Scanspeak, Audio Technology/Skaaning, Hiquphon...would be ones I'd look into //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

They're not what they were...

Always loved the ID stuff as well.

I say the JL cleansweep is worth it being you don't want to go aftermarket.

Might want to check into Seas or Rainbows for componets and like you said zapco(for componet amp), but they are some cheese, however you got 5g's to put into this.

Those subs are a good choice for what you are looking at. I loved the sound of them, but I also like the ID Max.

I myself like sealed as well. I just never got the good clean sound out of a ported box, loud, yes and good numbers, but just never really SQ oriented. Some people have though, that I guess just comes down to install.

Zapco's good. But, IMO, power is power. I just can't justify the extreme prices for some amps I see out.

Great choice on the w6's.

MBQ has a higher end line that some people use very successfully, but I honestly don't know the name of that line.

My choice for speakers would be ScanSpeak revelator line. You can go with a very nice 3-way setup, or 2-way setup up front. But, they're fairly expensive so keep that in mind. Dyn is another good brand; I'm very happy with my mw162 midbasses and have heard nothing but excellent things on all their other products.

You have a very nice budget and you can do a lot with it. Any particular reason you're looking at JL? I think I'd skip the JL amps altogether, you have a good charging system and you don't need to pay for the RIPS technology, which IMO is the only real advantage they have over other amps.

I'd seriously look into Alpine's PDX line for amplifiers. Extremely small footprint, high power, stackable, and extremely efficient.

Not so sure about the Cleansweep. There's other options out there such as RF's 360.2, and I'm pretty sure Zapco has a factory application as well that I would imagine is very good. I'd give that a look for sure.

As for the JL gear you're considering... are you buying from a local store? How much are you paying for the w6's? I'd throw in Image Dynamics' IDQ subwoofer line into the ring and think you could save some money as well.

As for ported boxes sounding "boomy"... mine doesn't. I went ported to get more low end and I did. I had to do some EQ'ing to get rid of the 50hz spikes though, even though I tuned the box to 27hz... cabin gain FTL. Of course, you have a Tahoe so you may not have to worry about that issue as much... seems trunks are horrible for cabin gain. With the right processor you won't have anything to worry about. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Thanks for the advice guys. I will look into the Fosgate 360, however I have allready purchased the JL Clean Sweep. Its unopened so it could go back.... I am pretty stuck on those JL w6's, but for the mids and highs it looks like I have some research to do. I have always wanted to go with Zapco amps. Do they make a Class D Mono amp to run the subs, or do they mostly make 4channel amps for the components? Also, its been a while since I heard a decent system. I know what my old kicker comp 12s sounded like with a 500watt soundstream going to them. Are the JL's going to be much louder than that? I dont want the mids and highs to get drowned out by too much bass.
