I think it's a good strategy...Definitely it will give a good benefit.

make sure you make a pod for those 8's. and deaden your doors. I would also recommend going with a 6.5 driver for the midrange, simply because even though you have those 8's to cover up the roll off from the sub stage, you're still gonna start to hear those 8's rolling off well before 100hz so if your midrange drivers can get low enough and loud enough, the gap between stages should be less audible.
