2006 Lincoln LS install

The weather has been particularly cold and wet in WV this winter, and the owner being out of town for work 50% of the time doesn't help much. The guy works on a river barge for four weeks at a time, so it's hard to get him motivated to do any type of work while he's home. I'm not overly enthusiastic about freezing my nuts off for free, so if he isn't going to show some initiative neither am I.

But on the bright side, I have 100% definitive plans for the rest of the build and everything is going to look very clean once it happens. We're still going to utilize the spare tire well and build up a false floor to retain use of the trunk. Everything will be padded and wrapped in black vinyl, and the amps will be flush mounted in the floor (whether they'll be inverted or not will be a last second decision). The IVA-W505, RF components and DC PAI-120.4 have been installed and operational for quite some time too, and they sound awesome.

This build will get finished, guys. I just don't know exactly when. Pics will come when I get back to work on it...

This project still has vital signs and progress has been made. The goofy enclosure is sitting in my garage right now. However, my friend has already left for work. This means I won't have the vehicle here for a month. I'm waiting on partsexpress to get their 4" ports in stock so I can order a couple. Pics will come once they arrive and I finish the enclosure. Right now it's really ugly....my enclosures are never pretty until I break out a belt sander or roundover bit.

The trunk layout is set in stone. The false floor with flush mounted amps is a go. This build will be completed once my friend returns. The LS was a pita and this winter has been awful, but the weather is getting nicer everyday. I can't wait to put this project behind me... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

FINALLY, new pics:

It's not perfect, but it will be when it's finished. I'll just need to add some filler here and there and maybe do a little sanding. I'm going to use some 1x2 furring strips for bracing. The false floor will act as a double baffle.

Its a face! lol
So i guess it is firing up into the trunklid?
Yeah, it's ugly as all hell. It doesn't matter, because it'll never be seen. It has plenty of airspace and the 4" aeros will allow me to tune to the mid 30's. The enclosure is going into the tire well and I'm going to brace around it and build a false floor. I know you have/had a LS, so you should be familiar with the trunk. This enclosure is going to raise the floor in the trunk about 6". It'll be nowhere near the deck lid. The sub and ports firing up isn't ideal, but it should be far from terrible.

I originally wanted to do a false wall (rear firing sub, ported through the rear deck), but that obviously didn't work out. I'm still fairly confident the end results will be nice...

Yea I have my LS still. The trunk is pretty fail in comparison to most Lincoln's trunks. It is small.

But using the spare tire well is a good idea. When I do my setup, i am thinking of building it under the rear deck and porting into the stock 6x9 subwoofer holes. Also maybe even face the subs firing into the cabin through the middle seat spot.

Looks good and I am ready to see end results! sounds like it is going to be sick!

If you're going to build exclusively under the rear deck, you might want to think of doing a few 8"s. There's not much room to work with in that area...

Seriously, if I could start this project over, I'd do 3 or 4 8"s firing forward in a sealed enclosure. That would've been more than enough, and it would've been finished within days...

This goofy ass lookin' box is now available in black. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Kinda pointless, but I couldn't stand the thought of doing nothing to it.

Another coat of paint, some bracing & a layer of polyfill will be added tomorrow...

looks good sofar, I am very curious about the result.

Im wondering if your friends knows about your "lack of enthusiasm"? Because I sure as hell wont let anyone do an install in my vehicle if that person got no enthusiasm. IMO it takes patience, time, and motivation to make an install look good. I would say most guys that got no motivation or whatever will do crappy job as they would half-*** the install. Might not be the case for you but it is like that for most guys ha.

Nonetheless all of the work you ve done looks good! I always have liked LS. They look really nice IMO.

Yeah, he's well aware of my lack of enthusiasm. My hatred for this project is a reflection of the extreme amount of time it has taken, the nature of the vehicle itself and the fact that I'm not crazy about the enclosure design.

This project has tested my patience on every level. Every plan has fallen through. Every deadline has come and gone. Things like that eventually take their toll on anyone. But I won't half-ass any job, especially when I'm working for a long time friend that's been good to me and my family. When it's finished, it'll look clean and function properly. If I had doubts about that, I wouldn't touch the car again...

When/if I work on this vehicle again, things will be a lot different.

good to hear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif just like I said this might not be the case for you but for most people it is like that.

Keep it up. I am looking forward to the end result.

An update:

The enclosure has a few coats of black paint and the bolt terminals are installed. The bracing and aero's need to be cut to length, but I already have the proper measurements ready to go. Making a cut or two isn't a big deal. I'm still debating whether or not I want to put in some polyfill, though. It really isn't necessary, but the inside of this thing is even uglier than the outside. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

About 30 minutes of work will have this thing officially ready to make some noise. Once we get it sitting perfectly level in the tire well & have a solid idea of what it's going to sound like, maybe it'll ignite some enthusiasm to finish this build once and for all.

Here are a few pics:

And please remember this: The enclosure won't be seen. It'll be concealed 100% by a false floor that will also act as a double baffle. I'm well aware of the enclosure's goofy look, but it has the correct internal volume and the tuning frequency that I was shooting for. The only problem is the ports are a little close to the walls of the enclosure, but I didn't see a way around it.

And yes, the duct tape on the port tubes is just there for the pure hell of it. The joints were roughed up, cleaned and glued. I just took a double precaution with the duct tape to make sure everything is 100% leak proof.
