i am currently running 2-way morel hybrid ovations passively using a 4 channel kicker (only 2 of the channels are currently being used), and an alpine type R 10" sub that is powered by a JL 500/1. i understand the point behind going active and bi-amping these morels, because the 4 channel will only have to boost a much smaller range of frequencies, so it will not be as overextended and the sound will be clearer. i also understand that it will be much more efficient in terms of power.
however, what can be said about using a 4 channel to bi-amp components (using an active crossover), can that also be said about the JL amp? if the frequencies sent to the JL 500/1 amp are also cut preamplification, will it improve sound and efficiency for the sub and the mono amp as well??
the reason i ask is bc it will determine whether I buy a 2 or a 3 way crossover.
i also think i need a crossover with a bandpass option, to set the LPF and the HPF for the woofer. anybody know any 2 ways with a bandpass option?
if i go 3 way i was thinking about the audiocontrol dxs, which is discontinued but available on ebay and full of features.
