1999 Silverado Alpine Build

Thanks, the project is on halt for a little while, until I get moved down to school and find a job. But I did get the front of the car all done.

Definitely happy with the way it turned out. I will try to post more pictures of it soon. The only thing left to do is add an eyebrow to the windshield and to switch the turn signals with the daytime running light bulbs. I like the amber look with the turn signals, so I want them as the daytime running lights and I want the turn signals to be clearer

Yes, and I've never worked with fiberglass before. Another thing, I want a downfiring enclosure, because I'm pretty sure my car is going to get broken into again, and my theory is, if they can't steal it they will trash it. So if it is downfiring they cannot touch the subs, if it is forward firing they can ruin the subs, even if there are grills over them, which there would be, they still could ruin the subs. Down firing is what I decided on, how much space do I need to leave between the sub and the floor? Also what if I just paid you for blueprints of a box that way you wouldn't have to send anything but an email. Haha and I agree, not sure hom much that jack is going to help being that my truck is lifted, might need to invest in an aftermarket jack. But I don't think I'm going to be doing any glass work to get up in that area. So far what I have, It maximizes the space under the seat, but its just a rough design out of cardboard. A little scared to start with the wood, need to do some more research first. And with the 2" seat lift you didn't have to extend the locking tabs on the back of the seat?
INVERTED WEDGE DESIGN

I been meaning to build one these for myself one of these dayz

Alright, project is officially on halt for a few weeks. I will post the finished product up in a few weeks, or I hope I can finish it. Anyways updates will come in a couple weeks.

Lol not giving up, just taking a break, need to find a job, and cannot work on the box because I'm away at school. I hope that I can have it finished in a few weeks, but you know these things, they don't always go as planned. We will see though.

that they don't lol. hopefully you get a chance to finish this up soon.

Alright, it's been a while, nothing has really happened in the last couple weeks, as I've been at school. My friend just gave me a pair of 6.5" speakers for the front, which are basically brand new. They are just a cheap pair of kenwoods, but I'm not going to turn them down since my front speakers are blown and I'm on a budget. They have 80w rms and i believe 240 peak which I think will handle the power from my amp, and they will be sufficient for now, until I have the money to upgrade to some components. I will be trying to mount the speakers tomorrow, they are components (the cheap kind with the crossover built in the speaker) and I do not have a place to mount the tweeters, which is what I will be trying to do with the little amount of tools I have, (a screwdriver and pliers) so it will be interesting. So I will see what I can get done tomorrow and post an update. But in the meantime, here is how the headlights turned out, from a better view at least.

Sorry it's been a while, I've been very busy with school and unexpected stuff came up. The speaker install went fine, just a cheap job since I had limited tools. I was in a big hurry so I didn't take too many pictures, but I the picture I have is on my phone not the computer yet. I ended mounting the tweeter right behind the grill in the door panel, so it's right above the mid speaker. The tweeter had a small bolt on the back of it to bolt it to something so I found a whole near the speaker mount in the door panel and just stuck the bolt through the hole and used a nut and a washer to tighten it down. It's hard to explain, but it's pretty ghetto lol, however it does work and doesn't really matter because no one can see it. I will try to take a picture of that when I take the door panel off, but probably won't be for a while because I'm really busy in these next two weeks. And yes, I desparately want to get this done, and really want to get those subs put in, but having food at the moment and passing my classes is my first priority. Hopefully, if all goes according to plan I will have them installed over thanksgiving.

Alright its been a long while since I've posted or even checked, but I haven't really been up to much as far as car audio goes. School has kept me busy and has been draining my bank account. Hopefully the subs will be coming over Christmas. I might be working on finishing up the wood work for my box tomorrow, since I have all the parts to it. I won't be able to carpet till Christmas break which isn't until the 17th. Just for a little entertainment, I inspired my little brother so much that he wanted subs in his car, so I installed them today and yesterday with the help of my dad. But here are some pictures.

Start:

Getting the head unit in was a pain in the butt, there is barely any room inside BMW's everything is jam packed in there so it was hard running the RCA's up to the head unit, and actually getting the new head unit in the car. But we got it done.

Just some cheap 10WX0's since he didn't want to spend money, I figured JL has good products and they were within his price range, already in a box.

MBquart amp, not sure how good quality they are, I know Maxxsonixs isn't the best but I think it's a good enough amp to do the job.

I only have one complaint, the subs don't really thump. A friend of mine has some really cheap 10's with a cheap 350w amp that seems to be made out of scrap metal its so cheap, and they thump a lot harder. I ran 8 gauge wiring for the amp power, I'm wondering if it's not allowing enough power to run through. Any thoughts?

Well I just put them in, so no they don't stay like that, they have just been that way so far. I was going to stand them up and face the trunk door but my dad didn't want me to, and its really his car so what he says goes. I figured the placement of the subs could have an affect on they way it sounds, but not affect it so much that they aren't loud. My only assumptions at this point are, I need to upgrade the power for the amps from 8gauge to 4 gauge (only pushing 400rms amp), if that doesn't do it then I will upgrade the sub wiring(has 12gauge right now), if that doesn't work then I'll take the subs out of the box and look at the wiring because I'm not really sure how the two are wired, and if all those fail my conclusion is the amp is junk.

8 gauge should be fine for 400 watts RMS, even if the amp isn't all that efficient. As long as it's actually 8 gauge. On the other hand, if the subs aren't wired down to a low enough impedance to allow your amp to push 400 watts RMS into them, that could be a problem. Any idea what the setup reads on a DMM?

on a side note, looking forward to the conclusion of this build.

Well the 8 gauge claims to be 8 gauge, however it is a cheap wire I ordered off ebay and I don't believe it is actually 8 gauge. So when my little brother gets off tonight and brings home some 4 gauge ring terminals I will run 4 gauge wire to the amp and see if it makes a difference. Then I will check the impedance on the subs, that was my thought as well. And I'm assuming by DMM you mean digital multi-meter, if so, I don't have one so I'm not sure. But I'm looking forward to the conclusion as well lol, only one month away! That is, as long as everything goes according to plan.
