12" SQ Sub for Rock/Metal?

I am running an IDQ12v3 in my truck and this thing is just flatout amazing regardless of what you want to listen to...Granted it is a little over budget, but man what a sub. It blends so effortlessly with the front stage that it doesn't draw any attention to itself, and can make an average install/tune still sound great. Also, its ability to play very well and accurate up to 100hz really bring rock music to life if you aren't running dedicated midbass drivers....In contrast, the 13Ov2 I am running in my S10 is not nearly as good above 65hz or so...I can adjust the Xover from 70 to 250hz and barely hear any difference because of its natural roll off in a 1.0 cf sealed box.

Another great option would be the ID12v3, another fantastic sub but $100 less than the IDQ...there are several people who believe this driver to be almost as good as the IDQ on the forums...

I listen to a lot of older Tool, Deftones, Sevendust, etc. and the IDQ has done everything I have asked of it and more...I keep getting out more old CDs that I never could get the bass right on with previous subwoofers, and it just nails them all without even adjusting anything. Seems like with all my other subs I would have to adjust something for each new cd. This sub makes it so easy, it is like it is self-adjusting... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I had the mag in a 1.2^3 net sealed enclosure and being powered by a bpx1100.1 roughly 1000 watts. It sounded pretty good just not much output, people say it opens up a lot ported. My gti is in the same box and the reason why I say it sounds ok is because it has peaks so some notes sound real loud and some don't. that's why if I was strictly wanting sq the mag would be a great choice.
And you pretty much hit the nail on the head. And for that very reason is why the new Mag's have been designed towards small sealed enclosures. The new Mag's are a LOT more efficient in sealed boxes than the version you had. Ported, the Mag you had SLAMS and still sounds really good. That's where they shined the most. I don't know about you but I'm tired of building big ported enclosures just to get good output.

IMO the problem is, no matter how much output you/your customer will get going sealed, ALOT of people will still think in the back of their head "I could gain 3db by porting this".
I was going to suggest an IDQ also.

I have an older Eclipse 12" sub in a sealed box that works great with metal and hard rock, and I picked it up locally for $90 a while back.

It's getting 400w rms, and I listed to a lot of Hatebreed, Disturbed, System, Rage, Korn, Tool, Carcass, etc.

Well they can do whatever they want to do, but the new drivers won't take it mechanically. If they want a really loud ported driver they should look at something else.

PS: Treo and an SQ sub don't really mix. Might as well throw in a Jackhammer mention if we're going down that road. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

In vented setups, thermal limits generally come into play before mechanical ones (assuming you have your SSF set correctly). So Im not sure what you mean by they wont take it mechanically.
I wasn't suggesting your sub should be built differently, I was suggesting the average consumer is stupid.
