10's or 8's...worried about low end.

You say tomato, I say retard. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
edit: But yes, I apologize to all true retards out there. I realize Cot isn't one, he just plays one on the interweb.

The miracle of A.I.D.S, It turns fruits into vegetables.
Cot is like aids to car audio. He's a cancer to this board, a plague on society!... no wait.. he's just another know-it-all kid who cant keep his trap shut long enough to actually learn anything. *yawn* //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
But I wll give credit where credit is due... Cotjones is persistantly ignorant, consistantly arogant, and punctually wrong. That's something, I guess.

well instead of ****ing off and flaming lets test your theory

OP says either 2 10's sealed or 4 8's sealed

lets try the w1v2.

4 8w1v2's would have a linear displacement potential of 39.209 in^3

@ 400watts

2 10w1v2's would have a linear displacement potential of 40.1415 in^3

@ 300watts

on woofersetc right now...

4 8w1v2's will cost you $400

2 10w1v2's will cost you $220

did i mention that the 8's not only lose in over-all potential but fail in lower-end because of a ((((10 hz difference)))) in Fs?

there is one example of a fail, the first one i compared, i shall continue:crazy:

How about comparing RE8's to RE10's? Only a 1hz difference in fs, yet the 4 8's will have more sd than the 2 10's...once again the 8's prevail.

Comparing two woofers in the same series can be pretty pointless as parameters change among series giving the different sized drivers different sounds (take a look at the new XXX for a prime example). It's not always the same way either. Sometimes increasing cone size will decrease low end extension and sometimes it will not, it all depends on how the design changes. It doesn't have to do with the cone area but rather how the cone area affects the other parameters and the direction the engineer chooses to take.

kickers!!!

the comp 8 vs the comp 10

kicker doesn't provide effective piston area, but we can assume its close to the difference of the jl's

comp 8:

4 8's= $184

@400 watts

Fs= 40.2 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

xmax=.34

comp 10:

2 10's= $108

@300 watts

Fs= 29.4 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

xmax= .38

hmmm 8's FAIL again //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

in the RE line yes according to t/s= the 8's would have a slight advantage, this advantage though seems very mute

since it takes DOUBLE the power and DOUBLE the money to get almost the SAME performance...

i wish i had the will power to read this whole thread...but ill just take it as cotjones being dumb...and audioholic raping him
It started with someone else being real dumb, someone named cam5860. He got ***** too tho. So it's a double **** thread

JL audio...

lets try w7's

4 8w7's:

114 in^3

@1200 watts

Fs= 35.2

$1480

2 10w7's:

107.64 in^3

@1000 watts

Fs= 30.6

$1000

look!!!! we ALMOST have a win for the 8's

but then... AWW FU CK!!!! w7's are a super woofer that you can't fit in the cab of a truck...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif:verymad://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

You do know that not everyone pays those prices....

and me a god damn economist (or at least I trying to be) would tell you that it is a useless metric to compare cone area and price and call it effeciency.

I can't even figure out what you are trying to prove...loudness, ability to hit low notes, based off 1 t/s specs and price?

You can't model loud. If you could, dB drag wouldn't even have cars...it would be a bunch of econometricans and SAS/R outputs...but no need for cars if we can model loud.

Trust me, took about 1.5 yeaks of tommyk telling me over and over again that I can't model loud before I actually believed him.

mtx 4500 series

4 8"s:

Fs 39.76

28.9044 in^3 potential

300 watts

$192

2 10"s:

fs 25.43

$122

another lose for the 8's
