10's or 8's...worried about low end.

Ok Cam5860 you are an idiot

8's cant get low: Wrong. 8s can play as low as any other driver on the market in the correct enclosure, the loudest stereo ive ever sat in had 18 8s and it did rediculous numbers (155+ @ 30 hz )

8's arent loud : again see the above post

8's normally have a higher fs than other drivers, however this is over come by the extra motor stregnth gained by used multiple drivers.

Hoss you are deadly accurate man you know your shit. Thanks for backing me up. The fact is if you want the best of both worlds you have to settle in between a 8 and a 15. Actually a 11 inch woofer would be the best you could do.
I'm gonna get in on this one, even though I don't really want too. First off, hoss is making fun of you, no help there.... Secondly, there is no magic size for subs that make them work the best. As far as I'm concered, go with the driver or combination of drivers capable of moving the most air with the least distortion, taking up the amount of space and power you have available. A group of 8's does have advantages over less larger subs. You'll suffer less power compression and have a greater motor strength to cone area ratio. How low the sub will play is determined by how much air it displaces, at least when we are talking about producing them at equally loud levels in sealed enclosures. I'd take an 8 with 32mm of xmax over a 15 with 7mm anyday of the week, similar displacement in alot smaller space.

There is no reason an 8 can't play low and, especially if it's optimized for a ported enclosure.

The DD 1508 has a Fs of around 52 Hz.

However, I will be getting with chad soon to see if they actually can "get low". But that is more of a charactertisic of that individual driver, rather than of it's diameter.

My point of this issue the quality of bass you get from the size of a woofer. The bass you get from a 8 is much different than what you get from a 10 period.
no it's not.... Measurments don't lie. I've got a set of 15"midranges in my basement with a little eq can sound just about like any midrange speaker, but get alot louder to boot.

because loyd has a bunch of them. everyone knows that large groups of anything break the norms.
you and loyd know nussin.
hehee. it was always fun when ppl said " 8s wont play loud" and loyd playd some late night tip on em //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the extra motor force overcomes the high fs of the drivers compensating for the natural rolloff all drivers have

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

8's definatly get low...my 3 1508s kick me in the chest to the point of discomfort, and louder in the lows then my 06 12" XXX that was tuned 5 hz lower;)

Your retarded if you think 8's shouldn't be considered subs, they can play the same range of freq as a 15, just less output, in less space. Use the same space, and muliple subs, you have more motor strength between those 8's and probably more cone area, which = louder. Your on crack if you think you know your sh!t //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

And wtf? how would an 11" sub be the "best of both worlds" I don't know what worlds your talking about tard, but there are at least a few companies that make 11" subs, including eD, Focal, kenwood, etc. Stop spreading crap you made up in your head, or better yet what your local circuitcity salesman told you:rolleyes:

/rant:D

Now, this thread is about 4 8's SELAED, which, they still get low, but a lot of 8's shine when ported because it makes up for high fs and lower xmax. They'll still play down to 30, but i say do 3 8's ported rather then 4 8's or 2 10s sealed.
