    L7 louder than W7

Absolutely true. Everyone who sits in my car (Myself included!) notes how "Clean" the 12W7 is, but a few peole have said "It's loud, but not that much louder than your 12W6v2." Well, Let me tell ya. It's loud. After I listen to the 12W7 at some high levels, I'm literally fatigued. My whole body...

    other subs like JL Audio??

As with just about everything else, you get what you pay for. There is a very good reason that JL Audio products seem to be used as reference products all the time.

    Anyone know...

Dude, I think you mean 31mm 31CM would be over 1 FOOT of linear excursion. (Not that that wouldn't be cool or anything!)

    12" JL Audio W6v2 or 10" W7

Absolutely wrong. Take the effective piston (Sd) and multiply it by Xmax on each driver. The 10W7 has a slight advantage.

    Sealed vs Ported

A properly tuned ported enclosure can theoretically add 3dB of output over it's sealed counterpart. 3dB may not sound like a lot, but I think for every 9dB of output the sound is twice as loud to the ear.

    12" JL Audio W6v2 or 10" W7

The 10W7 will move slightly more air than a 12W6v2. Either would be a great choice though.. I've got a 12W6v2 now and it sounds great. I've got a 12W7 I'm waiting to install though. Personally, I'd go for the 12W7 or 13.5W7. I haven't heard a 13W6v2 yet, but I can only imagine it's as awesome as...

how do jl audio amps work

Do note that the amount of current that is drawn when the voltage drops increases signifigantly. You need voltage and current to make output. Drop the voltage, you have to raise the amount of current drawn to keep the output the same.

    4v or 8v

Wrong. Higher pre-out voltages allow for a "cleaner" signal to arrive to the amplifier. The higher voltages allow for the actual audio portion of the signal to be 'louder' than any noise that may be on or near the interconnect. It also allows for a lower gain setting. Contrary to popular...

    Is the ALPINE MRD-M500 Good?

I've got one and I love it. It's an awesome amplifier that is unparalleled in sound control. It's a bit more than other amplifiers that output similar amounts of power, but it's a solid performer that has given me 0 trouble. I had an MRD-M300 before that and I had no complaints with that amp...

    Anyone else's 9815 make a noise?

My 7894 made this noise, and my 9815 now makes this noise. I'm not worried though. It's a bit annoying, but I can deal with it. Besides, I found the fix.. I bought the MP3 changer and I use the door much less frequently

best head unit for around $500

I've installed 2 7998s, and my best friend has one. The way the 9815 presents the information is much more appealing to the eye. Scrolling all the time is irritating.

best head unit for around $500

The 9815 does everything the 7998 does and it has long file name recognition and will display two lines of MP3 / XM information. It also has 3 sets of XM presets.

    Alpine Faces Interchangable?

Yes and no. I did this very swap. The 7995 face will work on the 7894, but the display will be completely black. All the controls still work though. Same thing for the 7894 face on the 7995. One swap that MAY work is the 7983/7894 swap. These faces are very similar in that they both have the...

Aside from the fantom face, the 9815 is a superrior deck to the 7998.

    Alpine CDA-9815 or Eclipse CD8443?

So you knew it was a bad idea, did it anyways, and ruined your speakers, but it's Alpine's fault for making a crappy HU. Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that one up for me. Just about any sub can sound halfway decent if installed properly, but for the money you can get a hell of a lot better...
