12" JL Audio W6v2 or 10" W7

Um. Well first of all the 12W6v2 would last about 3 minutes with 1000 watts running to it. its RMS is 400 if im correct, and while that is underated, I dont think its underated by 600 watts. 500 watts for the 10W7 is a clean match, the SQ will be amazing and it will get pretty loud, esp. if you port it. Id do with the 10W7....cause the other option isnt possib;e. But id probably go witht he W7 anyway, as an owner of a 13W7 i dont have a bad thing to say about em, youll be very pleased with it.

What would get louder a 10" W7 with 500 watt or a 12" W6v2 with 1000 watts both in ported boxes in a suv same brand of amp and everything else the same too

The 10W7 will move slightly more air than a 12W6v2. Either would be a great choice though.. I've got a 12W6v2 now and it sounds great. I've got a 12W7 I'm waiting to install though. Personally, I'd go for the 12W7 or 13.5W7. I haven't heard a 13W6v2 yet, but I can only imagine it's as awesome as the 12 is. That may be an option for you as well.

I have heard a 12W6v2 hooked to a JL Audio 1000/1. It hit pretty hard, but in 1.25CF Sealed, you could tell it was reaching XMax and trying for more. I give my W6v2 about 550W and it's about perfect.

the 12 will actually push more air than the 10. the W7 will move a little farther but the 12W6v2 has a bigger overall surface area and a bigger piston than the 10W7 does.

displacement is cone area times excursion (linear usually). going by JL's specs, the 10w7 will SLIGHTLY push more air (difference is soo small though).

Absolutely wrong.

Take the effective piston (Sd) and multiply it by Xmax on each driver. The 10W7 has a slight advantage.

You're dismissing the fact that 500 watts will push a 10W7 nowhere near its limits and 1000 watts will push a 12W6v2 past its limits //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Why don't you just get a 10W7, 12W7, or 13W7 and get a Soundstream Rubicon1000-2 ($~$280 shipped) ?

How much are you looking to spend ?
u are forgetting the fact that i have a 10w7 and around 500 at @3ohm. i should know if it reaches its limit or not and yes, it does. put it in a 3 cubic feet box with that much power and u can see it reach full excursion. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i and MANY MANY MANY others happens to be out of that "most" people category. fact is that u said 500 watts won't each full potential with the 10w7 (did i mentioned u assumed he was going to put it in a 1.25 cube box?) and then now u say i'm correct that it will reach full potential with 500 watts (in a 3 cube box)?

but don't worry..no one knows everything....

....i retire from this forum

I have a 12 w6v2 with the 500/1 and it hits very hard, but a friend of mine has the 10 w7 and it hits louder then mine, not much but more. and he has the 500/1 as well and it sounds very nice. the 10 w7 is the better sub but you only need the 500/1 to push it, it is loud and it sounds really nice. GO WITH THE 10 w7

ok, now i'm gettin mad, i keep seeing these wrong as$ posts....

a 12w6v2 will run fine off a 1000 watt amp - this i'm positive of

its funny how people say things and they are so sure of themselves, yet they are 100% wrong...

ps - 1 bad thing i can think of about 13w7 is the price. 2 ohm load 3rd the lil' sticker that comes off after having the mess beat out of it!

About this which amp(wattage) to use with the W7, I was flamed @ rec.caraudio.org by this two guys about it.

Basically someone posted a question on getting a system install. Some stereo shops recommending two 10W7 with 500/1 for his install in a Infinity J30. He was skeptical on the recommendation of 250W to drive each 10W7. I'm not a guru but I have seen a few W7 install and I know 250W is really not going to give the 10W7 much.

So I gave my $.02 and was flamed by these two guys, ranting about the recommended wattage of 10W7 is 250W and how one of guy had install a pair and ran them off a 500/1 and sounded terrific, ... and how I was smokin' crack becuz my opinion on the amount of power needed.
