10” for EDM sub recommendation, lots of questions

Just know that a lot of car audio brands, even the really good one's have products made in China. Doesn't mean it is bad, just be aware. RF still makes good stuff. From entry level to high end.
Yeah, I'm fine with it. Even iPhones are made in China.

A 1000w on a sub is going to overpower any factory system. Just sayin.
This had not occurred to me- you mean overpower in terms of volume? or some electrical phenomenon?

What wattage is good to pair for a factory system? 500W? So a single RF Punch 10" P3?

Ah man, lots to consider. I think I really need to experience someone's ported sub to see if I prefer that, but in general I prefer crisp beats over diffuse bass.

I'm thinking I don't need bass that intense, but who knows, maybe I'll get greedy and change my mind later. I'm new to EDM and like R&B and Hip Hop originally. I think I can get my SPL fix at festivals tbh.
Putting a 1000w amp even wired 1ohm will probably get you 2-3 ohm power at best, that said I'd definitely go ported and don't fall for a huge airspace enclosure as they tend to be output oriented and peaky which probably translates to "diffused" to you and "boomy" to most. As someone else said if you are in a medium sized cabin I'd definitely up it to a single 12. My Toyota Matrix has a single CompR 12 on a micro amp at 2 ohm no less but in a ported enclosure more geared for accuracy. It's like 2.4ft3 externally (1.6ft3 net) and gets the job done with crisp response, low delay and output that'll send the rearview mirror into point at the floor mode when pushed to do so. Brand nuthugging ain't my thing but a budget sub in a proper designed enclosure will outperform any medium to hi dollar sub in a prefab or improperly designed enclosure. Enclosure matters, those who know... know.

I meant in terms of volume. :)

Yup, something like 5-600w to a 10" P3 would bump pretty good to EDM. At least in my opinion. Only you can judge what is best for you. But that isn't a bad starting point.

I wouldn't be afraid to get the 1000w. Just get an inline gain, like Rob said and you can keep the sub at a level that matches the speakers and if you decide to upgrade the stock stereo down the line, your sub and amp are ready for it.

I agree, some amps even come with knobs
1000watts is easily achieved with op's budget
Ideally I would put most the budget into the sub.
Mono woofer amps don't contribute all that much to sq as one might think
A skar rp-1500 or rp-1200 i think would suffice

Is the big 3 upgrade necessary for an IDMax 12 and a 1000W mono amp?
ID max 12 on a 1000w mono budget amp? Not necessarily but I would personally if the amp wasn't so budget. Big 3... really? I don't run bs amps to expensive subs but that's my thing. A $400 dollar sub needs close to double that in electrical/amp to perform and that don't count the expense of the enclosure and other associated costs.
You want performance on some budget but some things cant be cheaped out on man...

I'd run a 1500w amp on one of these and be grinnin'. Something like a RF Power T-1500. Whether your after sq or whatever you'd have cone control. Either way a "Big 3" upgrade is a no brainer.

It would depend on the efficiency of the amplifier
Typically I would recommend yes
with 1000watts you may not need it immediately but maybe factor it in to your to do list
If you were trying to quote someone there is a button for that, great to hear your take on this subject man

This is why the forum is gone, buncha low IQ budget half ***** playing games. I remember getting solid advice around here once upon a time but nowadays?
I'm logging out... have fun guys

Speakers always take precedence over amplifier choice when trying to achive the best possible sound on a $1000 budget

It seems like there's disagreement on how important the amp is, so far I'm hearing:
1) budget will do
2) spend the same amount you would on the subwoofer,
3) spend 2x the amount on the subwoofer.

I'll probably go with #2.

I'll listen to a ported box when I can, everyone seems to agree on that. I just got the car today and trunk space looks pretty dismal... may need to design the box to be longer and flatter, with the sub pointed upward, which would take up the whole trunk foot print but then it wouldn't be too tall and I could rest stuff on top of it temporarily. But that's probably a bad idea, huh?
