Spl wise-
xfls are pretty classic they are known to perform well, would the NVX VCW outperform it?
Nvx has 5mm more xmax, xfl now take 1500 so a little more power

XFL for sure. VCWs are more SQL subs and best in a sealed box. Plus they have issues bottoming out under heavy transients. On the other hand I've seen videos of people putting 5k on a pair of XFLs in a massive box and they take it without complaint

Xmax isn't as important in a ported box. Sealed boxes you need all the xmax you can get for maximum cone to air coupling. Most of the sound from a ported box is the back wave forcing air out of the port, in effect making the port a "speaker"

I had a Hawk a couple years ago. It was a good subwoofer, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd still go with the XFL. I'm a sucker for the ribbed surround plus Hawks use direct leads which I'm not a big fan of myself. They also only come in dual 4 ohm so if you are only planning on getting one, you'll only be able to go down to 2 ohms

Also where are you shopping? Usually Hawks go for like $50 more a piece than the XFLs

The Continuous feedback regardless of spec change is they xfl’s pound hard for thr money, are versatile and sound good in a variety of enclosures (assuming a quality built and properly sized enclosure l), and can be run of slightly below rms ratings to well over rms ratings.

Vcw looks like a good sub for $170, plenty of people with positive things to say as they’ve included them in their build
