Computer building, I am

1st build from the ground up. Always jittery for the first time and what kind of if's and whats can happen. Been there done that only I was 10 with a soldering gun, soldering in parts that cost hundreds of dollars for one piece of memory or cpu or installing a hard drive that was only what 20-40mb,lol.

You will learn over time young padawan!

Hahaha that's some computer gangster stuff right there. I don't think I'll ever have to solder together my own PC parts.

Nope everything has been mainstreamed for the most part since the late '90s or so. Maybe even as early as '92-'93. I can remember soldering in all sorts of memory chips. Just to go from 1mb to 2mb or 2mb up to 4mb was a huge cost back then. We had CD readers back then as we had to for dad's work since not only was he a machinist as you know but he also did all the computer work i.e security setups on Mobil Oil's Elwood Location. He even created the pump vibration analysis program back in the late '90s that they still use today for figuring out what part, exactly where the vibration is coming from and what you need to fix it. Heck he would bring home the security software when I was oh around 12 when he 1st installed on our home PC to see how fast or IF I could even hack it. Usually within anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours I was in fully usually with a smart *** picture for him to see when he would login, lol. Like nice try ******* try better next time this time it only took me 15 minutes, lol. He would just smile and look at me and laugh. One day he said "I've created someone who can hack wtf was I thinking?" And trust me if I wanted to I would get back into it but it is like an addiction once I start installing stuff on encrypted hard drives and yeah I end up doing stuff I shouldn't so its been around 16 years since I did anything not that I still don't have a ton of programs on CD and DVD.

That's how you learn though. Like there's such a deeper level of understanding of something like PC's when you actually had to know those individual parts and what they do and what not. Like all I had to do was plug and play man. It was stupid easy, really. Like I'm mad I didn't do this years ago.

Hacking is dangerous because like there's literal armies of hackers that work for intelligence agencies. You cross the wrong path somewhere on the web, wooooweeeeee

When I saw this thread, the first thing I thought was how in the heck are you getting parts? I NEED a new video card and I am SOL for finding a replacement in stock that doesn't cost 3x more than the current RX580 that I am running with defective fans. I would rather NOT get another RX580, but the newer cards cost even more coin... Is it terrible that I considered buying a gaming rig just so I could bogart the video card?

My GPU was $500 when I bought it, like December 2020. 2 months later, it was $1000, if you could even find one.

If you could even find any parts. I bought one of the last of my motherboards. Bought one of the last GPU's. Idk about my pcie 4.0 HD's, idk. My motherboard and GPU and CPU were all immediately gone within weeks of me buying stuff, basically.

Sheesh, last July my power supply went out and I spent almost $400 for an EVGA 750 that "should" have been around $150 tops. My only saving grace is that it was for a business computer, otherwise I would have really cried.

I'm thinking about building a few. I have absolutely know interest in playing video games but I am seriously thinking about getting into crypto mining. Still doing research on the whole matter but it seems like fun and I need a new hobby.
