Hello folks,

Just bought my first audio stuff for in my car. So i am a total noob in this. I've been searching for some answers to some questions, but ended up more confused the more i searched....
So i decided to make a thread here. And hope to get an answer also more suited to my specs.

Short spec list:
2 Emf 6.5 75w rms speakers (4ohm)
digital design ss4b 1000w (4ohm) rms 4 channel amp
50mm2 ofc tinned copper power cable

Probably the amplifier is a bit overpowerd for my needs.. But i rather have a bit more headroom than run out of it.

Now i am searching for a 10'' subwoofer and i am guessing a JL Audio 10w1v2 would do. The subwoofer is 300w rms and the amp channel is 250w rms.
Now the confussions begin on the internet...
Some say that you need more amp power than sub power other say its the other way around.
So what is true? And how should i run such an sub with this amp?

I rather save 2 channels to add some tweeters and/or midrange speakers later on.

Then i also got some questions about enclosures.
The Emf 6.5 speakers don't have alot of specs i can find. I cannot run them in the doors or fit them nicely in free air. As it is a rare 80's car i don't wan't to ruin original hard to find interior parts of the car. Also i don't want the boxes to take to much space/weight but want to get the most range and quality out of what ive got.

So best bet is to make some nice closed boxes for them? But how big should they be?
pretty much same goes for the JL 10'' sub. Sound qaulity comes before big oomf.

I don't know anything about audio so i don't know what is acheviable and reasonable. Any input, info, advice and commantary on/or to better the setup is welcome.

The sub will definitely need a decent box. The box makes more of a difference than the sub itself. The speakers will also at least need some type of separation from the back and front of the speaker. You can’t install them in the doors?

Okay, Well for the sub i can use the manufacturers specification for a sealed box. Guess that isn't a real issue.

But what about the 6.5'' speakers? Any rule of thumb how big they need to be for a given speaker size?

Just about any size box will do for the 6.5s. So whatever you need to build to fit in your vehicle. Boxes really only matter a great deal for subs.

What vehicle? Just curious because there aren't that many rare 80's cars. Are you putting a system in a Lamborghini Countach? A good rule of thumb on sub power is twice the speakers rms. rating.

A component set around 100-125 watts rms per side would run good on the other 2 channels. You could probably get away with a little lower, just be careful with your amp gains on those 2 channels.

Am I missing something about this amp? It seems quite a bit more powerful than the OP thinks it is.

The car is an 84 Ford sierra Xr4i. Not a really high value car but still pretty rare. Pieces for interior ar hard to find...

I wanted a sundown SAX 200.4 And ordered one. But they didn't had them anymore so i could get the digital design ss4b without extra charge.
Still a reminder, i am a noob so yea the amp may be a little overkill :p

I was thinking about a 50/50 power balance wich consist out of:
EMF 75W rms paired to one channel at 4 ohms
2 component sets 4 ohm of about 100W Left and right diveded
which will give about 350W and take 3 channels

and then choose between for a sub
Jl audio 10w1v2-2ohm 300w
Hertz CS300 s2ohm 350w

For the box i am now doubting vented and closed. Put some info into Winisd and the diffrence in run off at low HZ is way better with a vented box. Got room for about 55liters.
if i use 55 liters (1.9cuft) and tune to 24hz i get a nice run off from 40 to 20hz.
Jl audio says the box should be 25liters (0.9cuft)

Is this worth it to fit a bigger box?
Or will it only hurt qaulity without adding low bass?

I don't know if the amp likes running on 2 ohm close to max rms power? Or what it will do to longevity of the amp..

Same as the 85 - 89 Mercury XR4Ti in America. Thin door cards... you building door panel pods?

I think you will be just fine to be honest. Id run it and check it after hammering on it quite a bit and check the temp on the wire by hand to see...
